Prince William and Kate Middleton are away on royal duties as Prince Harry returned to the UK this week.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, returned to Britain on January 19 to attend court hearings in his case against the publisher of the Daily Mail. Harry is among seven high-profile claimants alleging Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) committed serious breaches of privacy. Their allegations include use of private investigators to place listening devices in vehicles and the illegal acquisition of private phone data.

The publisher strongly denied the allegations, calling them “simply preposterous”.

Despite Harry being back in the UK, reports suggest he won’t meet up with members of his family. Here’s why…

Prince Harry’s return to UK

As Harry arrived in the UK on Monday, he was thrown straight into court proceedings. It seems he’s focusing on the trial during this visit to Britain, rather than visiting his family.

But it’s not just that. Harry’s father, King Charles, is also up in Scotland at the moment as he enjoys a post-Christmas break.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived in Scotland for a series of engagements. According to a royal commentator, this move from the Waleses is “telling”.

Harry has only returned to Britain a handful of times since stepping back from senior royal duties and moving to the US in 2020.

U-turn on Harry’s UK security

When he and wife Meghan Markle stepped back from duties, his automatic taxpayer-funded police protection was downgraded. It’s now decided on a case-by-case basis.

Harry has been appealing this decision for years. He lost a court appeal last May to have the security reinstated when he visits the UK.

I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing my wife and children back to the UK.

In an interview at the time, Harry said: “I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing my wife and children back to the UK. They’re going to miss everything, I love my country.”

He also expressed a desire to reconcile with his family.

According to recent reports, Harry’s security is apparently under review again. A decision is expected this month.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ‘telling’ behaviour amid Harry’s return

Now, The Mirror‘s Royal Editor and TV royal commentator Russell Myers has discussed Harry being back in the UK this week.

Mr Myers has written in an article: “Harry’s failure to overturn a decision by the British government to strip him of taxpayer funded security when he returns to Britain, has not ceased his campaign. Since being denied a judgement at the Court of Appeal last May, the duke has written to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood who is reportedly going to bow to his demands.

“Such action would potentially pave the way for Harry to bring his wife, Meghan, and two children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK, after previously suggesting his country of birth was not safe enough for his family to accompany him on trips back home.”

He added: “While that may present a glimmer of hope for him to reconnect with his family, it is quite telling as I revealed yesterday, that the king, queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales have chosen to arrange engagements 500 miles away in Scotland this week while Harry is engaged in his latest legal battle.”

Whether Harry will reconcile with his family remains unclear.
