A new update about Queen Elizabeth II’s memorial statue has confirmed what the tribute will actually look like.

Here is everything we know so far…

Queen Elizabeth II memorial statue update

Since Queen Elizabeth II’s death on September 8, 2022, plans have been in motion to honour the late monarch with a tribute to coincide with what would have been her 100th birthday, this year, on April 21.

The official memorial committee, chaired by Lord Janvrin, has worked on the project for the past four years.

Final plans are expected to be revealed in April. It seems the team are ahead of schedule, as a glimpse at what to expect has already been shared.

As per BBC, the national monument will feature a statue of her standing.

This is a new update, as previous plans depicted the queen upon horseback.

A widely circulated image even illustrated a towering statue that will be situated in Central London, with Elizabeth on a horse.

The memorial, which is also expected to include three statues, is going to be built in St James’s Park in central London.

Just a short distance from Buckingham Palace.

The latest on Queen Elizabeth II’s memorial statue

Karen Newman, who once made waxwork models at Madame Tussauds, including Prince Philip, has been announced as the designer of one of the smaller statues.

According to the memorial committee and Cabinet Office, the main statue, which will be stood on The Mall, will show Queen Elizabeth standing up, rather than riding a horse.

King Charles is said to have been kept up to date with the plans.

The finalised statue, designed by Martin Jennings, will be made public in April 2026. This will coincide with the centenary of the late Queen’s birth.

“After careful research and thought, my design for the Queen’s monument will emphasise her role as head of state and proudly follows a sculptural tradition that shows kings and queens from the House of Windsor in a standing position,” sculptor Martin Jennings stated.

The late queen’s statue won’t be far from memorials of her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Both George and Elizabeth have been depicted in statues where they are seen standing, wearing formal attire.

The main statue of Queen Elizabeth will be near to the Marlborough Gate in St James’s Park.

Nearby there will also be a statue of her beloved late husband, Prince Philip.

The memorial will also include an eye-catching glass balustrade on a bridge across a lake, as well as commemorative gardens and another statue.

Elsewhere, Karen Newman has also shared her thoughts about making a statue to pay tribute to the late queen.

“She was an iconic and unifying figure in our national story. I am very much looking forward to portraying the strong and complex personality of our late Queen,” said the sculptor.
