Royal family would face 'horrifying prospect' over Sarah Ferguson 'comeback' amid scandal
She has also faced criticism for links to Jeffrey Epstein
The royal family may be bracing for what one expert has dubbed the “horrifying prospect” of a Sarah Ferguson comeback, as speculation mounts over the possibility of a tell-all interview from the former Duchess of York.
In recent months, Sarah and her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have been at the centre of scrutiny over their association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew stepped down from royal duties back in 2019. Last year, the scrutiny reached boiling point as their ties to Epstein and sexual assault allegations against Andrew repeatedly made headlines. Andrew has always denied the allegations against him.
It resulted in Andrew being stripped of his royal titles, meaning Sarah also lost her Duchess of York honour. The former couple will also leave Royal Lodge.
Now, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the couple’s split in living arrangements could mark the end of their famously close post-divorce dynamic.

Sarah Ferguson reportedly considering ‘comeback’
“It will be a very substantial change from the image of this idea that they were the world’s most friendly divorced couple,” Fitzwilliams told GB News.
“[She] will almost certainly try some sort of comeback. But in what form and how?”
Andrew may have taken the hardest hit publicly by getting stripped of his royal titles. However, Sarah wasn’t spared in the Epstein fallout. In a 2011 email that resurfaced last September, she referred to him as a “supreme friend”.
The comment led several charities to cut ties with her. A spokesperson later claimed the remark was made under duress.
“Her charities have cast her adrift,” Fitzwilliams added. “What we don’t know is what she will do next. And of course, from the point of view of the royal family, a horrifying prospect is that there could be television.”
Last year, reports suggested that Sarah was “carefully considering” several lucrative offers for a major sit-down interview. American broadcasters were allegedly prepared to pay six-figure sums.
Sources claimed that such an appearance could mirror Andrew’s disastrous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, which deepened the scandal surrounding his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Andrew has had his chance to tell the story. Now it’s Fergie’s time,” one insider told The Sun.
If she proceeds, Fergie would likely face questions about Andrew’s past connections to Epstein, as well as his settlement with Virginia Giuffre in 2022.
Ms Giuffre accused the former duke of sexual assault. She alleged that Epstein trafficked her and made her have sex with Andrew on three occasions when she was 17.
Andrew and Ms Giuffre reached an out-of-court settlement in February 2022.
The royal repeated that the settlement did not mean any liability or admission of guilt. It ended the civil lawsuit but left lasting damage to Andrew’s public reputation.

‘She’s been keeping a low profile’
Other royal commentators have suggested that Sarah has been keeping a low profile amid the scrutiny.
Royal commentator Richard Eden highlighted the change during Palace Confidential on MailOnline’s YouTube channel.
“Unusually for Sarah, she’s been keeping an extremely low profile,” he said. “Indeed, when she attended the christening of Beatrice’s daughter Athena before Christmas, she literally ducked down in the car so you couldn’t see her face.”
Fergie shares two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with Andrew, and has appeared in public far less frequently of late. According to royal insiders, the move is deliberate.
Her apparent strategy is to keep her head down and avoid headlines while the fallout around her former husband continues.
