In 2025, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s scandals pushed King Charles to act more “brutally” than ever before, according to a royal commentator.

In the wake of renewed public scrutiny around Andrew’s links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the king stripped his brother of all remaining royal titles and initiated his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor.

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the monarch’s actions were “more brutal than people expected,” but ultimately necessary.

King Charles’ ‘brutal’ response to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor allegations

“I think [the king] is acting in the way that he feels appropriate, which was more brutal than a lot of people expected,” Fitzwilliams told GB News. “He removed the title of prince. Some people speculated that it wouldn’t happen. I think that this was necessary given the circumstances.”

Fitzwilliams added that King Charles may have been caught off-guard by the full scope of the allegations surrounding Andrew, which have emerged slowly over the years.

“It appeared belated because [the Epstein files] had gone on for so many years in different ways,” he said. “It’s been very difficult for the king because he does not know what is going to be released.”

I think that this was necessary given the circumstances.

This sense of unpredictability, coupled with the growing public outrage, is believed to have influenced Charles’ swift and decisive action.

Royal author Christopher Andersen also weighed in. He suggested that the tipping point may have been the release of Nobody’s Girl, the posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre.

Ms Giuffre accused the former duke of sexual assault. She alleged she was made to sleep with Andrew on three occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

These claims were reiterated in her memoir, which was released in October 2025, six months after she tragically took her life in April 2025.

Andrew has consistently and vehemently denied all allegations.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Anderson described the memoir as the “final straw” for King Charles.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal

The final nail in the coffin came in October 2025. A leaked email, allegedly from February 2011, appeared to show Andrew in contact with Epstein.

The email allegedly read: “We’ll play some more soon.” This directly contradicted Andrew’s infamous 2019 Newsnight interview. In the interview, he claimed that he cut ties with Epstein in December 2010.

Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing fallout, Andrew is reportedly preparing to relocate to Marsh Farm, a modest property roughly two miles from Sandringham House.

Security upgrades, including new fencing, surveillance cameras, and reportedly even a Sky TV satellite dish, have seemingly been underway.

The location offers privacy but represents a clear downgrade from Royal Lodge.

Drone restrictions were also reportedly introduced over Marsh Farm in December 2025 to protect his privacy, reports claimed.

Although stripped of prestige and titles, Andrew’s lifestyle may remain relatively unchanged.

“He has been living largely out of the public eye since 2019,” HELLO! Royal Editor Emily Nash noted. “Andrew has often been seen out riding. That’s something he could easily continue at Sandringham, which is home to the Royal Stud.”
