Sophie Edinburgh and the Duke of Kent’s rare joint appearance together

On Wednesday, Sophie, 61, and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, 90, attended a joint engagement at the University of Surrey in Guildford.

The royal duo were there to visit the Surrey Space Centre.

During the engagement, they met students, fitted a commemorative panel to a satellite, watched a demonstration of space technology and space simulation models, and trialled a virtual reality headset.

Speaking to the BBC, Professor Jarvis said: “For our students, whether still studying or already well into their careers, having two members of the royal family witness this work first-hand is an experience they will long remember.”

Sophie and Edward’s sweet moment together

Sophie and Edward shared a few heartwarming moments during their joint engagement this week.

As they arrived at the university, they were seen kissing each other on the cheek.

They then enjoyed a cup of tea and a catch-up before beginning the engagement.

As they left, they shared another kiss on the cheek before heading their separate ways.

Royal fans were loving what they were seeing between the royal duo.

“The Duke of Kent kisses goodbye to The Duchess of Edinburgh after they visited the University of Surrey in Guildford today. It’s so lovely and moving to see Their Royal Highnesses’s rare joint engagement,” one royal fan tweeted.

“Love them both,” another said.

“Lovely,” a third wrote. There was some concern for the Duke of Kent’s appearance, however.

“He looks so frail,” one tweeted. “Bless him, looking frail,” another wrote.

Duke of Kent’s rare public appearance

Earlier this week, the Duke of Kent made a rare public appearance for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked on January 27 every year. It is a national day of commemoration in the UK to remember the millions of Jews and others who suffered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution.

The elderly royal visited the Imperial War Museum to “reflect on the lives of those who survived the Holocaust and the memory of those who did not”.

During his visit, he watched a performance by the English Chamber Orchestra. Photos of his visit were shared on the royal family’s social media accounts, which you can see here. The duke was seen sitting in a wheelchair whilst holding a walking stick.

Royal fans praised the duke for attending the engagement.

“Such high respect for HRH Duke of Kent. At his age, he is doing a fantastic job,” one royal fan wrote.

“I have the utmost respect for HRH Duke of Kent. An honourable, hard-working gentleman who has always been loyal to our country and the monarchy,” another said.

“AMAZING, he is still doing his duty for the king at his age. No retirement for the duke,” a third wrote.

It comes after the Duke of Kent lost his beloved wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, last September.

Sophie attended the duchess’ funeral alongside the duke.
