The extravagant '£36k gift' that Princess Charlotte forced to 'hand back' explained
An amazing gesture!
When Princess Charlotte was just a newborn she was reportedly given an unbelievable gift – and it even boasted a link to her late grandmother, Princess Diana.
The princess, who is third in line to the throne, was given a breathtaking present when she wasn’t even a year old.
Unfortunately, the gift allegedly could not be accepted by the Wales family.
Princess Charlotte was given a stunning gift
When Princess Charlotte was born in May of 2015, William and Kate were apparently presented with an amazing gift to mark her arrival.
Despite the splendour of this lavish present, owing to strict royal protocols, Princess Charlotte was forbidden from keeping this extravagant gift.

The Natural Sapphire Company bestowed gifted Princess Charlotte a stunning gemstone encrusted rattle.
Princess Charlotte’s rattle was crafted from 18ct white gold and adorned with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies, forming a Union Jack.
The company explained at the time why they gave such the newborn princess such an eye-watering and costly gift.
Princess Charlotte’s sapphire and ruby rattle
They explained: “When Kate and William were engaged with the iconic blue sapphire ring that once belonged to Princess Diana, our sapphire ring sales rocketed.

“Women everywhere wanted to be just as fashionable as Kate. Today, we continue to grow as a business and it is with great joy that we celebrate the birth of a new royal.
“We’re thanking Kate and William for introducing our company to the world, by gifting a custom-designed baby rattle, fit for their Princess.
“Baby gifts made from precious metals are a tradition dating back to the 18th century. Our luxury rattle, worth $45,000 (£36,000), is made from 18k white gold; lined with sapphires, rubies, and diamonds to produce the Union Jack flag.”
“Such a unique gift, unlike any they will receive from well wishes around the world, will surely be treasured.”
Why the gift was believed to be returned
Although the rattle was a beautiful and undeniably memorable gesture, reports at the time explained it was unlikely that Princess Kate had been allowed to accept it.
Kensington Palace could not verify such at the time.
It was reportedly stated that as a standard policy, presents from commercial enterprises cannot be accepted by the royals.
Kensington Palace has been contacted for comment.
Although the elaborate toy was a unique gift, Princess Charlotte did have another option. Given by none other than her grandfather, our now monarch.
King Charles’s modest gift to Princess Charlotte
King Charles gave Charlotte a handmade willow rattle, priced at a more modest £25. Considerably less decadent, but wonderful all the same.
Earlier this month, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Scotland for a series of royal engagements.
During their visit, things took a heartwarming turn when Charlotte received an adorable gift.
Their final stop was the Gothenburg pub in Fallin, a former mining village that is located four miles east of Stirling.

While at Fallin, Kate chatted to members of the public, including 70-year-old Adele Hodgson.
Adele explained that she first started crocheting as a hobby, but now sells her creations to raise money for the local Strathcarron Hospice.
Adele also gave Kate a special gift for Charlotte – an adorable crocheted bunny.

Princess Kate seemed over the moon!
She exclaimed in response: “She [Charlotte] will absolutely love that. She’s got lots of teddies on her bed.
“Well done! That must have taken a long time. Thank you so much.”
How sweet!
