Princess Kate Middleton has shared a touching message to mark World Cancer Day this week.

The Princess of Wales, 44, announced last January that she was in remission following her cancer treatment the previous year. She announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. At the time, she stepped away from royal duties to focus on her treatment.

To mark World Cancer Day on February 4, Princess Catherine shared a personal message alongside a montage of clips of her speaking with cancer patients.

In a voiceover message, Princess Catherine said: “On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment, or finding their way through recovery.

“Cancer touches so many lives. Not only patients, but the families and friends and caregivers who walk beside them.

“As anyone who has experienced this journey will know, it’s not linear. There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness and profound connection.”

Kate concluded the message: “Today is a reminder of the importance of care, understanding and hope. Please know you are not alone.”

Princess of Wales’ cancer journey

The Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis was announced in March 2024 in a personal video message.

It came after months of speculation about Kate’s whereabouts after she hadn’t been seen in public since Christmas Day 2023.

In January 2024, Kate underwent abdominal surgery. However, tests after the surgery found cancer had been present. Therefore, Kate was advised to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy.

There are moments of fear and exhaustion.

In her personal video message at the time, the princess said: “This of course came as a huge shock. And William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

Kate took a step back from duties to focus on her health, only attending some bigger royal events across the year.

Then, in September 2024, she shared the news that she had completed her treatment.

She admitted in a message alongside a family video: “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

Kate in remission

In January 2025, Princess Catherine announced she was in remission. In a statement on social media, Kate admitted she felt “relief” and said she was “looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead”.

Since then, the Princess of Wales has slowly been returning to her duties whilst still focusing on her health.

At the same time that Kate was undergoing treatment for cancer, her father-in-law, King Charles, was also having treatment for a cancer diagnosis.

The king’s treatment continues this year, but he announced in December 2025 that it would be reduced in 2026.
