King Charles' public remark that has 'haunted him for years' revealed in new documentary

The film, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision, offers a look at His Majesty’s decades-long commitment to environmental sustainability, as well as the work of The King’s Foundation. Narrated by Kate Winslet, it dropped on Amazon Prime Video on Friday (February 6).
However, in the documentary, it is shown how Charles was ridiculed back in the ’80s following a remark he made during an interview, and it has “haunted him” ever since.
King Charles ‘haunted’ by past comment in documentary
Charles’ documentary features interviews and archive footage to show how King Charles has championed environmental causes for decades.
During the documentary, narrator Kate Winslet spoke about the king’s struggles when he was a younger working royal to convey the message of environmental issues.
“While explaining his passion for organic farming to the press, Prince Charles made a comment that has haunted him ever since,” Kate explained.
She was referring to a 1986 television interview that Charles took part in. He said: “I just come and talk to the plants, really—very important to talk to them, they respond.”
King Charles on being ridiculed for comment
The remark led to Charles being ridiculed by the press. In the documentary, a shot of a newspaper article at the time said Charles was “completely off his trolley”.
However, in the present day, Charles reflected on not succumbing to pressure to move away from his beliefs.
Charles said: “I just felt this was the course I’d set which I should stick to. I wasn’t going to be diverted, I’m afraid.”
Charles ‘worried’ about planet’s future
Also in the film, Charles was asked whether he was worried about the state of the planet. He shared: “Of course. That’s been my main motivation for a long, long time, and you can see what’s happening.
“But I mean the underlying principles behind what I call Harmony, I think we need to follow if we’re going to somehow ensure that this poor old planet can support so many.”
Charles added: “I’ve said that for the last 40 years, but anyway, there we are. So, that’s why I get a bit, anyway…I can only do what I can do, which is not very much.”
