On Tuesday, nine people died and 25 more became injured after attacks in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

Six victims were found dead inside the school. A seventh died on the way to hospital. Meanwhile, two more people were found dead in a home nearby.

At the time of writing, police has said they believe the shootings are connected. However, they can’t say definitively. The suspect’s body was found at the school with a self-inflicted injury, police also confirmed.

King Charles statement issued over Tumbler Ridge Secondary School attack

The king’s statement read: “My wife and I were profoundly shocked and saddened to learn of the most dreadful attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia.

“We can only express our deepest possible sympathy to the families who are grieving the unimaginable loss of their loved ones and those still awaiting news from hospital.”

The monarch, who is the Head of State of Canada, continued: “In such a closely connected town, every child’s name will be known and every family will be a neighbour. We can only begin to imagine the appalling shadow that has now descended across Tumbler Ridge. Our hearts go out to all those whose lives have been so shattered by this senseless act of brutal violence.”

King Charles added: “I very much wish to thank the town’s police and staff at the health centre for their courage as first responders, and all those across British Columbia who have helped in every way they have.

“In sending our most heartfelt condolences, my wife and I stand in solidarity with the people of Tumbler Ridge and all Canadians as they seek understanding, healing and strength.”

King Charles’ statement on tragedies around the world

It comes after King Charles issued a heartfelt statement last month. It came after a tragedy in Switzerland.

The king issued his message following a tragic fire incident.

On January 1, during New Year celebrations at a bar in Crans-Montana, a popular ski resort in southwestern Switzerland, a fire broke out.

40 people died in the fire. Hundreds others became injured.

Elsewhere, King Charles offered his support following a train crash in Spain. The incident in January killed at least 39 people.
