Mystery behind Meghan Markle's new 'significant' ring explained after public appearance with Harry
Meghan flaunted a new diamond ring on her right hand
Meghan Markle sparked intrigue this week after debuting a new sparkling ring while attending the NBA All-Star Game with Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, was spotted courtside with Harry, 41, at the Intuit Dome in California on Sunday, February 15. The couple mingled among high-profile guests including Barack and Michelle Obama and Queen Latifah.
However, it was Meghan’s jewellery that quickly caught the attention of royal watchers, particularly a large oval-cut diamond worn on her right hand, separate from her engagement and wedding rings.

Jewellery expert Trang Do, founder of bespoke fine jewellery house Kimjoux, suggested the eye-catching ring may represent an evolution in Meghan’s personal life.
“It could point to an upgrade or evolution of her engagement ring story,” she told the Daily Mail. She explained that clients often refresh their rings to celebrate anniversaries or new chapters in life.
According to the expert, wearing a statement ring on the right hand can carry symbolic meaning beyond romance.
“Wearing a significant ring on the right hand often symbolises independence, self-love, and personal power,” she added.
It could point to an upgrade or evolution of her engagement ring story.
Do estimated the oval-cut stone to be between four and six carats.
She also suggested that the ring could be a personal purchase rather than a gift: “[It] feels much more like a self-purchase. This could subtly signal a shift in personal narrative or a new chapter she’s choosing to mark independently.”

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring
Meghan’s original engagement ring was designed by Prince Harry in 2017.
The piece features a central diamond from Botswana, where the couple travelled early in their relationship, flanked by two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection.
At the time, Meghan said the inclusion of Diana’s stones ensured Harry’s late mother remained “a part of this with us”.
The ring was later redesigned in 2019. Harry reportedly commissioned jeweller Lorraine Schwartz to reset the piece with a delicate micro-pavé band.
Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry appeared in high spirits throughout the basketball game over the weekend. The couple were spotted laughing and chatting while seated courtside.
A lip reader later revealed they shared a playful exchange as they attempted to follow the match.
Harry reportedly joked about the sport’s rules, saying: “I can’t explain it, there’s so many rules.”
Meghan, laughing, allegedly replied: “Explain it to me, I really don’t understand the game.”
Harry then teased: “I know that. I can’t always explain it over and over again.”
The NBA outing came just after Meghan shared a heartfelt Valentine’s Day tribute on Instagram.
The touching image showed Harry holding their daughter Princess Lilibet, four, while she clutched a bundle of red balloons in their Montecito garden.
Meghan captioned the sweet moment: “These two + Archie = my forever Valentines.”
