Prince William’s beard has been a divisive topic. Some people love the Prince of Wales’ rugged scruff. Other royal fans aren’t that keen.

Now, some worrying information has emerged explaining why Prince William’s facial hair might not be the greatest style.

Prince William’s ‘trendy’ beard

British men are reportedly now more likely to have facial hair than not. According to the most recent survey, 54% of British men have some sort of facial hair, whether that is a sweepingly long beard or a sprinkling of stubble.

Despite it being a less popular style within The Firm, facial hair seems to be working well for Prince William.

Country Life columnist Sophia Money-Coutts definitely thinks so.

She penned in her “A snob’s guide to facial hair,” piece just yesterday that within her circle, Prince William caused quite a stir when he debuted his rugged look.

Money-Coutts wrote: “Short beards can be extremely becoming on a man. When The Prince of Wales debuted his beard in 2024, my old Tatler WhatsApp group excitedly burst into life. Prince William, we decided, had become the more handsome brother again.”

Unfortunately for Wills, although a beard might be quite becoming on him, according to a Swiss study carried out a few years ago, men’s beards may disguise a lurking secret.

Truth behind Prince William’s facial hair

The study claimed that beards can carry more bacteria than a dog’s fur does. Although William is known to be a dog lover, we doubt he wants to be compared to one…

In January last year, Wills wowed observers as he visited the Army Air Corps (AAC) in Suffolk for the first time in his capacity as the regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief.

There, he rocked his uniform as well as a well-groomed beard.

At the time, Wills garnered a lot of attention from fans.

Fans love Prince William’s beard

“Prince William, you are hot to trot [flame emoji],” one fan wrote on X.

Another commented on Instagram: “Always a good day when William is in uniform!”

A third said on Instagram: “I love the beard era so much.”

Another added: “I am beginning to dig the beard a lot.”

Unfortunately, one member of The Firm wasn’t the biggest fan of Prince William’s beard.

Princess Charlotte wasn’t fond of William’s facial hair

In fact, Prince William admitted whilst on a trip to South Africa in November 2024, that his daughter Princess Charlotte had an emotional response to seeing her dad with facial hair.

“Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” Prince William revealed to reporters.

“I thought, hang on a second, and I convinced her it was going to be okay,” he added.

At the time, GB News spoke to hair expert Jack Miles from Revyv Hair, who explained why Charlotte may have reacted so emotionally.

“Change is difficult for everyone. Children don’t expect change at a younger age, so seeing her dad with a beard would have been a shock,” Jack explained.

“But I think Charlotte would have been able to get over it. People dye their hair, they get it cut, they grow it out, and guys shave and let their beards grow. It’s normal. I think it’s understandable that Charlotte was confused at first.”
