Charles covered in ‘salad dressing’ after Diana row
Former royal butler and confidante to Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, has written a new book.
The 67-year-old, who worked for Diana for 10 years. He began working for the late Princess of Wales from 1987 until her death in 1997.
According to his book, Paul was witness to several explosive rows between Diana and her then-husband, Charles.
Paul claims that he once encountered the then-Prince of Wales wearing a silk gown that was covered in salad dressing. Burrell had earlier helped set up what was meant to be a candlelit dinner for Charles and Diana.
Opening up about the incident in a chat with Fox News Digital, he said: “One evening, he rang the bell, and I went through after hearing this almighty row from the other side of the door, knowing I shouldn’t intrude until it went quiet.”

Paul Burrell recalls ‘almighty row’
The former royal butler continued.
“The dinner table was upside down, broken china everywhere, food everywhere. And he was covered in salad dressing. He looked up at me in a rather sheepish way and said, ‘Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I seemed to have caught my sleeve on the edge of the table, and everything just tipped up.’ ‘Of course.’ He knew, and I knew the real reason was that there’d been an almighty row and Diana had fled upstairs in tears,” he claimed.
It wasn’t the only row that allegedly ended in things breaking.
“Of course, they would argue, and I was there. I stood there and watched them shouting and screaming, and I cleaned up the messes. I brushed up the broken china,” he said.

King was not a ‘conciliatory man’
Paul went on to say that the king was not a “conciliatory man” back during his marriage to Diana.
He went on to say that he bore witness to “many” fights between Charles and Diana behind closed doors, which, at times, were allegedly “more than a shouting match”.
Paul claimed that “plates were smashed, tempers raised and even tables overturned” during the couple’s blistering rows.
However, after losing his temper, Charles would be “contrite and apologetic”. He would then retreat to Highgrove House.
On weekends, Diana would join Charles at Highgrove with their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to be a family. However, as Paul claimed, it wasn’t always a happy one…
