Royal family puts on united front amid Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal

The united front from members of the royal family comes during a turbulent time for the monarchy.

Last week, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of Charles, Anne and Edward, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The specific details of the allegations of misconduct being investigated are unknown.

Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.

The arrest comes at a time of intense scrutiny over Andrew’s past association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Following the release of millions of Epstein files last month, emails allegedly showed that Andrew may have shared sensitive and confidential documents with Epstein during his time as UK’s trade envoy.

Under official guidance, trade envoys have a duty of confidentiality over sensitive, commercial, or political information about their official visits.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

Hours after his arrest, Andrew, 66, was released under investigation.

King Charles’ statement on Andrew’s arrest

After Andrew’s arrest, King Charles issued a statement. He made clear his stance on the matter.

The king said last week: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”

He added: “As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
