Kate Middleton’s parents share a close bond with her husband, Prince William, and a new documentary has suggested he could give them a royal role in the future.

The Princess of Wales’ parents are Michael, 76, and Carole Middleton, 71. They have often been seen out with their daughter and members of the royal family for events.

This weekend, a new Channel 5 documentary will explore the Middletons and whether they could end up taking on a role within the monarchy when William becomes king.

Kate Middleton’s parents tipped for royal roles in the future

The show is titled, “The Middletons: Should They Be Working Royals?”. It’ll air in the UK on February 28 from 9:15pm for an hour.

The description reads: Michael and Carole Middleton, the parents of the Princess of Wales, are an ordinary middle-class couple who have unprecedented influence on two future kings. Should they – could they – ever become royals themselves?”

But the guy does say he wants change. Anything is possible.

As reported by the MailOnline, in the documentary, the publication’s Sarah Vine says: “In the 21st century, royalty is about how you behave. It’s not a given. And if the royal family is anything in this day and age, it’s to set an example. It’s to uphold certain standards and Andrew [Mountbatten-Windsor] broke those rules and so he’s no longer there.

“But it means that a door is open to other people becoming royal through their behaviour.”

‘Rewrite the entire fabric of the monarchy’

According to royal correspondent Jack Royston, William would have to “completely rewrite the entire fabric of the monarchy” to make Carole and Michael working royals.

He adds: “But the guy does say he wants change. Anything is possible.”

Prince William's big changes for the royal family when he's king

Prince William has revealed the changes he'd like to make when he becomes king one day.

Upon the abdication or death of his father King Charles, the Prince of Wales will become monarch.

While there are no signs yet that William is nearing the throne, he has opened up about his plans as future king.

Prince William's plans for change when he becomes king

Appearing on Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveler last year, William told host Eugene Levy of his plans.

He said: "I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good, and I embrace that and I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen."

He also suggested he plans to get rid of some older royal traditions.

William said he believes it’s "important" that royal tradition stays. He added: "I think it’s very important that tradition stays, and tradition has a huge part in all of this but there’s also points where you look at tradition and go, is that still fit for purpose today? Is that still the right thing to do? Are we still doing and having the most impact we could be having?"

Could Trooping the Colour go when William is king?

When it comes to big royal events, like Trooping the Colour, Prince William could also make some subtle changes when he's king.

The historic event has marked the official birthday of the monarch for over 260 years. It usually takes place in June each year.

Daily Mail‘s Royal Editor Rebecca English shared her thoughts. She said: "I would definitely expect a pruning back of the pomp and ceremony we see now. Not an abandonment of it, but a simplification of what he sees as the more ‘archaic’ aspects – think shorter ceremonies with less velvet and plumes."

Meanwhile, one royal source insisted Trooping the Colour wouldn't be removed entirely.

Meanwhile, host of the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential show Jo Elvin speaks about William’s close bond with Kate’s parents.

She says in the doc: “It just goes to show the influence that that family has on William, and how much he loves and respects them, that he doesn’t want them to be out of the loop in his family unit.”

Prince William’s plans for ‘change’ in monarchy

The Prince of Wales hasn’t made it a secret that he hopes to bring some change to the monarchy when he becomes king.

William is heir to the throne. While there’s no signs yet that he’s nearing the throne, it seems he is already looking towards his future reign.

Appearing on Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveler last year, William told host Eugene Levy of his plans.

He said: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good, and I embrace that and I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen.”
