Kate Middleton ‘so sorry’ as she’s forced to turn down heartfelt request from royal fan in Wales
She had to protect a lesser-known royal protocolKate Middleton was forced to apologise after turning down a sweet request from a royal fan during a trip to Wales with husband William yesterday, February 26.
The Prince and Princess of Wales headed to Wales this week, ahead St. David’s Day, on March 1, 2026. As they arrived, the future king and queen went and greeted a large crowd of royal fans.
However, in order to protect a lesser-known royal protocol, Kate ended up having to decline a request from a fan.

Kate Middleton rejects royal fan’s request on Wales visit
This week Kate and Will visited Wales and stopped by at the Hanging Gardens community centre, the Oriel Davis art gallery, and the Hafan yr Afon cultural centre.
There, they spoke with volunteers who run the hub’s various facilities, including a cafe, performing arts centre and indoor market.
For the trip, Kate looked stunning in a burgundy coat with a burgundy blouse and a matching maxi skirt. She also accessorised with Wales’ national flower – a yellow daffodil badge.
This gesture pays tribute to St David’s personal symbol of Daffodils or leeks. These symbols are typically worn on the feast day to represent Welsh heritage.

However, she had to refuse his request. In an Instagram video, Kate told him: “I can’t sign things, I’m so sorry. I can shake your hand, though.” Kate then gently hugged him and said: “Nice to meet you.”
Kate had to refuse the fan’s request to sign her autograph due to Royal Family members not being allowed as it could be later used for forgery.
Kate’s ‘expert’ handling of protocol ‘break’
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, body language expert Darren Stanton has deciphered Kate’s true feelings during this very awkward moment.
He said: “She’s a real master now in connecting with people very quickly. Kate appreciates that many have stood in the wind and the rain to meet her and William. The man in the crowd was poised with his paper and pen. She qualified her actions by legitimating it by saying we’re not allowed to sign things.
“She also immediately reached for his hand and said sorry, which appeased him. Then she followed that up with a hug. She didn’t make it an issue. It was a masterclass in overcoming a potentially awkward situation with zero fuss and drama. It’s clear that Kate cares about people, she felt the need to justify not signing anything, which left the situation as a win. Her smile was genuine and authentic and his happy expression was also genuine.”
The Princess of Wales’s burgundy ensemble for her Welsh trip is reminiscent of the coordinated numbers she and William wore on Sunday.
The couple were photographed over the weekend looking very glam as they attended the BAFTA Film Awards. William wore a luxurious, velvet, burgundy suit and a bow tie.

Kate and Will’s visit amid Andrew scandal
It appears William and Kate are putting on united fronts, despite the ongoing tension within the royal fold, given Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s recent arrest and mounting scrutiny on The Firm.
In a statement issued following Andrew’s arrest, the king said, “The law must take its course.”
Meanwhile William and Kate are understood to back that stance entirely. However, insiders claim the couple have been eager to publicly distance themselves from Andrew.
“They’ve been itching to say something,” one source told the Daily Mail.
Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Prince and Princess of Wales confirmed they were “deeply concerned by the continuing revelations”. They also emphasised that their thoughts remain focused on victims connected to the Epstein case.
