Prince William is said to be privately “seething with raw anger” over the escalating scandal surrounding his uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Prince of Wales appeared alongside Princess Kate Middleton at the BAFTA Awards just days after Andrew’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The award ceremony marked William’s first outing since the dramatic developments unfolded.

While speaking on the red carpet, William admitted, “I need to be in quite a calm state, and I am not at the moment. I will save it.”

Although the remark was made while discussing films he had yet to watch, royal observers believe it reflected far deeper tensions behind palace walls.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond suggested the comment revealed how seriously William views the crisis engulfing the monarchy.

“I think William understands that this crisis demands explanation,” she told the Daily Express. “And he’s let us know he’s not complacent. Nor is he calm.”

Bond said William’s body language indicated he was deeply frustrated by the situation.

“He is seething with raw anger at his uncle for the damage he is wreaking on the monarchy,” she noted. “And for his blatant lack of apology to the victims of Epstein’s sexual abuse.”

The reaction marks a notable shift from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s long-standing philosophy of “never complain, never explain”.

Insiders have suggested the future king recognises that modern royal crises require greater transparency.

Meanwhile, Royal expert Phil Dampier told HELLO! that on a personal level, William is likely concerned about the wider emotional impact of the scandal.

“I think on a human level, he will be very concerned for his uncle’s mental well-being,” Dampier said.

Meanwhile, sources say William remains fully supportive of King Charles’s handling of the situation. Buckingham Palace previously confirmed the monarch’s “wholehearted support and co-operation” with the ongoing police investigation.

In a statement issued following Andrew’s arrest, the king said, “The law must take its course.”

William and Kate are understood to back that stance entirely. However, insiders claim the couple have been eager to publicly distance themselves from Andrew.

“They’ve been itching to say something,” one source told the Daily Mail.

Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Prince and Princess of Wales confirmed they were “deeply concerned by the continuing revelations”. They also emphasised that their thoughts remain focused on victims connected to the Epstein case.

Andrew was arrested last week following allegations linked to his former role as the UK’s trade envoy.

Scrutiny surrounding his past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has intensified after the US Department of Justice released millions of documents related to the financier.

Thus far, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has not been charged. Nor does his arrest confirm his misconduct or wrongdoing.

The files prompted fresh claims that confidential information may have been shared during Andrew’s time in public office. He has vehemently denied all allegations.

Being pictured or named in the Epstein files does not necessarily indicate wrongdoing. Andrew has continuously denied wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

Behind the scenes, however, royal sources say William’s greatest concern remains his father’s wellbeing. The monarch is currently undergoing cancer treatment.

“It’s a terrible situation,” an insider said. “They are very concerned about the health of the king. He is exhausted. It’s draining for him.”
