A royal expert has revealed the heartbreaking reason why Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship might never recover.

The royal brothers’ bond is believed to have suffered following Prince Harry‘s departure from the UK in 2020 and the subsequent publication of his tell-all memoir, Spare.

The pair have not been seen together publicly since their father‘s coronation in May 2023.

Speaking on Hello!’s A Right Royal Podcast, the Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers went so far as to claim that the princes’ relationship was “done”.

“Everything I’m told about that relationship is that it couldn’t be worse,” he said.

However, he didn’t completely rule out the possibility of a reunion between the pair. He speculated: “Maybe there is a time in the future.”

Everything I’m told about that relationship is that it couldn’t be worse.

Myers, who recently authored the royal biography William and Catherine: An Intimate Inside Story, shared his view that Prince William’s many royal responsibilities should and will take priority over repairing his bond with his brother.

“There is an awful lot going on,” he explained. He listed the Princess of Wales’ recent cancer treatment, the King’s current cancer battle and William’s dad duties to his three young children as examples.

“When you’re looking at the checklist of things that are important to them, that’s way down the list,” the writer thus concluded.

William’s ‘physical attack’ on Harry

Harry, 41, fuelled rumours of a feud with William, 43, when he released his controversial book Spare in 2023. The memoir made a number of bombshell claims about the royal family, and many regarding Prince William in particular.

In one section, Prince Harry recalled a “physical attack” he claimed his brother had made on him in 2019. It is said to have followed an argument about his wife Meghan Markle, who Prince William allegedly called “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.

“[William] set down the water, called me another name, then came at me,” the Duke of Sussex wrote. “It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

Myers addressed the alleged altercation in his new book, with an insider making the fresh claim: “It was a cheap shot [from Harry] to present such an argument. Tensions were running very high, and yes, there certainly were cross words exchanged that on reflection were regrettable, but the prince [William] is adamant there was no physical violence.”
