Kate Middleton’s mindful styling could pay tribute to Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II

Tobias Kormind, Managing Director of Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller 77 Diamonds, has once again chimed in on Princess Kate’s predicted jewellery choices ahead of the Commonwealth Day service on Monday, March 9.

Tobias has previously discussed Kate’s heartfelt reasoning behind her jewellery choices and this time around, he is delving into how Princess Kate Middleton opts to subtly communicate her feelings.

And this year, it seems Princess Kate is likely to use the Commonwealth Day Service as a stage to show her remembrance of both Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.

At the Commonwealth Day Service, the Princess of Wales is likely to continue her tradition of wearing jewellery linked to both her late mother‑in‑law and Queen Elizabeth II, a particularly meaningful choice as the nation marks the late Queen’s centenary next month.

Princess Kate Commonwealth Day Service predictions

“One of Kate’s firm favourites is the Japanese four‑strand pearl choker with its diamond clasp, a piece she has worn increasingly at major public events, including the late Queen’s funeral in 2022 and last year’s Commonwealth Day Service.

“It would be a fitting and deeply symbolic choice for honouring the late monarch. She also often selects pieces that complement her outfit, as she did in 2023 when she chose to wear Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond double‑drop earrings that matched her navy ensemble perfectly.

In January, as Kate Middleton celebrated her 44th birthday, Tobias Kormind explained why Princess Kate often dips into the royal collection.

Princess Kate Middleton’s communication through her jewellery choices

Kormind believed that, due to her habit of thoughtful styling and a tendency to opt for pieces that behold their own meaning, Kate would turn to “poignant” items from the royal collection, as they often carry a lot of history and sometimes have been passed through the hands of several generations.

He said at the time: “The Princess of Wales has historically used her birthday portraits to showcase poignant pieces of royal jewellery. To mark her 40th birthday in 2022, she was intentional and heartfelt in her choices – opting for a pair of diamond earrings loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II and the Collingwood pearl earrings, a wedding gift to Princess Diana, in a series of portraits inspired by the work of Cecil Beaton.

Princess Kate ‘weaves history’ through her appearance

“In choosing these pieces, the princess sought to honour the women who came before her, weaving their legacy into her own story. Following her battle with cancer, her birthday portraits have become more personal and relaxed.

“Last year, in the photo shared by Prince William as a loving tribute to his wife, she wore one significant piece of jewellery, the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that previously belonged to her late mother‑in‑law, Diana, Princess of Wales. I expect she will take a similar approach in this year’s portrait, selecting staple pieces with clear personal meaning.”

Whatever Princess Kate wears, we’re sure to be enraptured and ever so eager to figure out the meaning.
