Royal butler reveals intimate details of Prince William and Kate Middleton's surprisingly 'normal' life at home

A look inside the life of the royals...

The busy lives of Prince William and Kate Middleton is something that has long been speculated about. Especially when the duo are balancing carrying the crown and raising their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, their personal lives are rather different than you might expect.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s surprisingly ‘normal’ life

Speaking on behalf of Select Car Leasing, Grant Harrold, who worked for the royals between 2004 and 2011, has revealed that William and Kate follow a rather strict routine.

But with a clear prioritisation…being there for their children.

The former royal staffer divulged all the details on Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton’s day to day. And it really opened our eyes on just how packed their schedule can be…before they are even ‘on the clock’ for royal duties!

“Both William and Kate like doing things for themselves,” Harrold explained. “Their homes run with very few staff, and their day-to-day life is far more ‘normal’ than older members of the Royal Family. The school run is part of this. For them, it’s an important part of their children’s daily routine and they want to do it themselves. They’re well aware that it brings some normality for George, Charlotte and Louis as well. Plus the royal schedule starts at 10am for them, so it’s doable in terms of their work commitments.”

He went on to say: “I also don’t think William wants the world to see his children being driven to school by a chauffeur, it’s not the image of the monarch he’s trying to project.

“However I imagine the school will have procedures in place to make it a smooth experience for them every morning. It would have been something they discussed when they picked the school. Kate and William won’t want to do anything that disrupts things for the rest of the schools, they’ve always been very conscious of that.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s busy day

Just yesterday, Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton had a jam-packed day out, with various royal engagements in their plans.

The duo took part in the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile, where they visited Borough Market and Faber Beerhall.

During the trip, Kate Middleton opened up about something she has partly given up since her cancer diagnosis in 2024 – alcohol.

The princess, when offered a taste of cider or beer, politely declined, stating: “Since my diagnosis, I haven’t had much alcohol.”

She then added: “It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.”

Princess Kate was then turned to Prince William, patted his knee and said: “But you like your cider, don’t you?”

From brewing to boating

William and Kate also got up to other activities yesterday, not just visiting a brewery and having a pint pulling competition.

They also visited London’s Borough Market, where they served crumble to unsuspecting customers.

Elsewhere, the couple also took a trip down the River Thames in an RNLI lifeboat, in an engagement made to highlight the “vital work” of staff and volunteers working for the Royal National Lifeboat Association.

A busy day for the Prince and Princess of Wales indeed! We wonder if they managed to make it back in time for the school run!?

Kensington Palace has been contacted for comment.
