Kate Middleton breaks tradition on Mother's Day following past furore
Kate broke tradition again this yearPrincess Kate didn’t share any photos of her and her children on Mother’s Day on Sunday.
It marks a major break in tradition for the royal, who has posted pictures of herself and her children on Mother’s Day for several years now.
Mothering Sunday was marked in the UK on March 15. The royal family celebrated the occasion with throwback photos.

Princess Kate’s Mother’s Day message
In previous years, Princess Kate has uploaded pictures of herself and her children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, to social media, giving fans glimpses of the young royals.
However, last year, she bucked tradition by uploading an edited video paying tribute to Mother Nature instead.
And, this year, she went without posting anything entirely.
However, a Mothering Sunday message was shared on social media via her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. The foundation’s aim is to highlight the importance of the early years of childhood.
“Today we celebrate every mother, carer and caregiver whose steady love gives children the foundations to thrive. Here’s to all who nurture and guide with the quiet acts that shape the next generation. Happy Mother’s Day,” it read.

Why did Kate break tradition?
One possible reason behind Kate breaking tradition stretches back to Mother’s Day 2024, when she posted her now infamous photoshopped snap of herself and her children.
At the time, Kate hadn’t been seen in public in 2024 and was recovering at home following abdominal surgery. Her cancer diagnosis had not yet been made public.
The photograph of Kate and her children sparked widespread speculation, with many pointing out several inconsistencies in the photo, which had been digitally altered. Several news agencies issued “kill notifications” to remove the photograph from their systems amid concerns that it had been manipulated.

Princess Kate’s statement on edited photograph
A day later, Kate addressed the photograph, admitting that she’d been “experimenting” with editing it.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she explained.
“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
It’s possible that Kate wanted to avoid another overreaction from fans and the media by not posting anything this year.
At the time, royal expert Robert Hardman slammed the conspiracy theories and reaction to Kate’s photo debacle.
“It was a really ludicrous, over-exaggerated response to something, particularly in an industry where doctored photos of celebrities are routine,” he told HELLO! at the time.
