Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was reportedly given a very plain name by police during his arrest last month.

King Charles’ younger brother Andrew was arrested on his birthday on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The specific details of the allegations of misconduct being investigated are unknown.

The arrest came amid a time of intense scrutiny over Andrew’s past association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Hours after his arrest, Andrew, 66, was released under investigation.

Now, new details have emerged and the alleged name Andrew was given whilst detained by police has seemingly been revealed.

Name Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ‘was given’ by police during arrest

According to The Sun, the former Duke of York was known simply was Detainee A when he was arrested last month.

A source said: “It brings it home doesn’t it? To go from Prince and Duke and Earl, Baron, Knight — all those fancy titles then suddenly you’re Detainee A.

“He must have thought just being plain ‘Andy’ was awful at one point. I don’t suppose he thought it could get much worse.

“Police in Norfolk are fed up that he’s effectively been dumped on them and made their problem.”

Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein

Now, he is simply known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after his brother, the king, had his royal titles and honours removed last October.

The king’s decision was announced by Buckingham Palace as scrutiny mounted over Andrew’s alleged links to convicted sex offender Epstein.

He must have thought just being plain ‘Andy’ was awful at one point.

Andrew has been mostly out of the royal spotlight for several years as his association with Epstein made headlines. He was also accused of sexual assault by the late Virginia Giuffre.

Ms Giuffre, who took her own life last April, alleged she was made to have sex with Andrew on three separate occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations.

Why was Andrew arrested?

On February 19, the same day Andrew turned 66, police were seen arriving on the Sandringham Estate, where Andrew moved to at the start of the month after vacating Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Andrew was arrested by police on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Around 11 hours later, he was released under investigation.

The specific details of the allegations haven’t been revealed.

However, it comes after Andrew faced allegations following the batch of Epstein files which were released at the end of January.

Allegations against Andrew

Following the release of files by the US Department of Justice, Andrew faced allegations that he shared sensitive and confidential documents with Epstein about his work as trade envoy in 2010.

Andrew served as UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011.

Under official guidance, trade envoys have a duty of confidentiality over sensitive, commercial, or political information.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Being named or pictured in the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.
