Prince William has teamed up with BBC Radio 1 star Greg James for his Longest Ride challenge for Red Nose Day.

In honour of Red Nose Day, Radio 1 presenter Greg, 40, is taking on a gruelling challenge: cycling 1000kms across the UK over eight days on a tandem.

His journey started in Weymouth on March 13. He’s set to cross the finishing line in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 20, which coincides with Red Nose Day.

But, on Tuesday morning (March 17), he had a surprise visitor on his journey. It was none other than His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales!

And seeing Greg and Prince William riding a tandem together was definitely not on our 2026 bingo card…

Prince William joins BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James on tandem ride

In videos shared across BBC Radio 1’s social media pages, Prince William was seen riding on a tandem behind Greg.

They travelled through the South Yorkshire countryside as William, 43, helped provide Greg with some more leg power as they pedalled up scenic hills.

Love this, cant wait for William to be king… keep going Greg!

During one clip, Greg asks William: “Are you having a nice time so far?”

William replies: “I’m having a great time.”

Greg then asks: “Okay, do you feel safe?” to which William says: “I do, I think. I feel like you’re in control.”

In another clip on Instagram, the duo ride past a school.

Greg says: “Here we go. Here’s a school of kids. Hi guys! It’s Prince William!”

The school children are then heard shouting and cheering.

William shouts out: “It’s a lookalike!”

Chuckling, Greg then says again: “That’s Prince William there, look.”

William jokingly replies: “He’s hallucinating!”

Prince William is no stranger to getting involved in charity challenges. Last November, he praised presenter Sara Cox for her extraordinary fundraising efforts when she embarked on a five-day marathon challenge for BBC Children in Need.

He said: “Sara, massive congratulations for what you’re doing. You’re so nearly there, just a little bit further. Keep going, you’ve done fantastically well, and the nation’s so proud of you.”
