Princess Kate has been defended by loyal fans following some criticism over the dress she wore for a state banquet this week.

On Wednesday, the royal family hosted the President of Nigeria, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, for a state visit.

Following tradition, a state banquet was held at Windsor Castle on Wednesday evening in honour of the president and first lady.

For the occasion, the Princess of Wales wowed in emerald green. But it seems not everyone was impressed by her regal look…

Princess Kate wows in green dress at state banquet

For the dinner, the Princess of Wales, 44, was the belle of the ball in a stunning emerald green dress by Andrew Gn.

The gown featured a high neckline, long sleeves and gathered cuffs. It’s been suggested that Kate wore green to pay tribute to the Nigerian flag.

She’s dressed respectfully for her guests, and looks amazing!

Completing her look, Princess Kate wore the Lovers Knot Tiara, which dates back to 1914 when Queen Mary commissioned the piece from jewellers Garrard. It’s a tiara previously worn by the late Princess Diana on several occasions.

Kate also wore a silver clutch bag by Jenny Packham and emerald satin pumps from Manolo Blahnik for the state banquet.

‘She always looks beautiful’

Despite Kate’s stunning outfit winning over many fans, some had a very different reaction.

One person wrote on X: “Why the hell is the future Queen dressed like this tonight at Windsor Castle? In England? In the 21st century?”

Another agreed, adding: “Sorry but it looks like a nightie.”

A third wrote: “I agree with you – way too clumsy.”

But others jumped to Kate’s defence. One insisted: “She’s dressed respectfully for her guests, and looks amazing! As a future Queen should…”

Another commented: “She always looks beautiful, appropriate and elegant, as befitting of a queen in waiting.”

Someone else added: “She looks absolutely beautiful as always and represents our country as it should be which very few people do now, just my opinion. Why are people so nasty? I just don’t get it.”

‘Importance’ of William and Kate’s roles in state visit

Earlier on Wednesday, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed the president and first lady to Windsor. They then took them to meet with King Charles and Queen Camilla for a ceremonial welcome.

Speaking to CasinoHawks, former royal butler Grant Harrold analysed the couple’s behaviour during their duties.

He said: “William and Kate welcomed the Nigerian President yesterday. This is a role that I’ve noticed the Prince and Princess of Wales undertake, where they meet the visiting head of state and First Lady and present them to the king and queen.

“They do have an important role and they’re very much involved in the state visit. William is the king in waiting, so he’ll be learning the ropes and observing when it’s his time to take on a state visit.”
