On March 22, 2024, Kate Middleton announced to the world that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

In the two years since her diagnosis, a lot has changed for the Princess of Wales. After announcing she is in remission last year, here’s a look at what the future queen consort’s life looks like in 2026…

Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis

On March 22, 2024, in a video, Kate announced her diagnosis.

It came two months after the abdominal surgery she underwent at the beginning of the year.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she said.

“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she then continued.

‘Came as a huge shock’

As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok,” she then continued.

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both,” she then said.

Kate on the ‘new normal’

Two years on, Kate is in remission and has previously opened up about trying to find the “new normal”.

Kate made the confession in July 2025, during a visit to the Colchester Hospital.

During her visit, she described the period following her diagnosis as “really, really difficult”.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” she said.

“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to. And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you, and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable,” she then continued.

“You have to find your new normal, and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.”

Princess Kate on ‘moments of fear’ during cancer treatment

On World Cancer Day earlier this year (February 4), Kate shared a video to social media about the occasion. In the video, she opened up about having “moments of fear” during her treatment.

In a voiceover, she said: “On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment, or finding their way through recovery. Cancer touches so many lives — not only patients, but the families and friends, and caregivers who walk beside them.”

“As anyone who has experienced this journey will know, it’s not linear. There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness, and profound connection,” she then continued.

“Today is a reminder of the importance of care, understanding, and hope. Please know you are not alone.”

Major change after cancer diagnosis

Last week, Kate opened up about a major change she’s made to her life following her diagnosis.

During a visit to Fabal Beerhall while touring London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile, Kate admitted she doesn’t drink alcohol much any more.

“Since my diagnosis I haven’t had much alcohol,” she admitted when offered a pint during the engagement.

“It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.”

She then asked the owner of the beerhall if they had any non-alcoholic beers.

“We don’t yet, I’m afraid,” she was told.

“I would love to do that one day, but we would need quite a bit of tech to do it properly,” the owner added.

Kate had a soda instead, while her husband William had a cider.

Upping her engagements

For obvious reasons, the Princess of Wales attended very few public engagements in 2024.

However, 2025 saw her begin to ease back into working royal life. By the end of 2025, Princess Kate had made 68 royal engagement appearances, a significant jump up from 2024.

And it appears as though she will make even more this year, with Kate regularly appearing alongside her husband in engagements up and down the country.
