The reason why Sarah Ferguson has kept a low profile in recent weeks may have been revealed amid the Epstein scandal.

In recent months, Sarah, 66, has faced scrutiny over her past association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In January, the US Department of Justice released millions of files relating to Epstein and his crimes. Within these files, emails allegedly showed the extent of Sarah’s friendship with Epstein.

Sarah Ferguson’s association with Jeffrey Epstein

One email appeared to show Sarah describing Epstein as “the brother I have always wished for”.

In 2010, as reported by the BBC, an email from “Sarah” to Epstein read: “You are a legend. I really don’t have the words to describe, my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness.

“Xx I am at your service . Just marry me.”

What’s her secret? Simple: good mates.

Last September, Sarah was dropped by several charities after a 2011 email emerged allegedly showing her calling Epstein, who died in prison in August 2019, a “supreme friend” just weeks after she publicly vowed to cut ties with him.

A spokesperson for the duchess claims the email was sent under duress. They added: “Like many people, she was taken in by his lies.”

‘Reason’ behind Sarah Ferguson’s low profile

Since the recent release of Epstein files in January, Sarah has gone under the radar.

Now, columnist Sarah Vine has suggested how Fergie has kept a low profile.

Writing for the Daily Mail, she wrote: “What I do know about her, however, is that unlike Andrew, who cuts a sad, lonely figure, abandoned by all who once knew him and dependent on the kindness of his brother, who is not-so-secretly furious with him, Fergie still has a close coterie of friends on whom she can rely.

“How else would she have remained so efficiently hidden – some might say shielded – from public view all these months?”

She added: “She is, when you think about it, the most famous missing person in the UK. And yet she hasn’t been photographed once. What’s her secret? Simple: good mates.”

Royal Insider has contacted reps for Sarah for comment.

Sarah and Andrew’s Epstein controversy

Last month, Sarah left Royal Lodge in Windsor where she had lived alongside her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Andrew has also faced scrutiny over his past association with Epstein. Police arrested Andrew on his 66th birthday on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

It came after the Epstein files in January appeared to show Andrew allegedly sharing sensitive information with Epstein in 2010 during his role as UK’s trade envoy. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

Hours after his arrest, police released Andrew under investigation.

Following this, a source told the Daily Mail of Sarah: “She sounds in a bad way. She’s been telling people she is really suffering with her mental health and thinks everyone is out to get her.”

Being named or pictured among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.

Royal Insider previously contacted representatives for both Sarah and Andrew for comment on the files.
