Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor once reportedly made a harsh remark about Meghan Markle, according to a royal author.

Meghan married into the royal family in May 2018. She and Harry tied the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

It came after they had met in the summer of 2016 and became engaged a year later.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s ‘comments about Meghan Markle’

But, according to one royal author, Andrew allegedly had some pretty harsh words about Meghan.

Andrew Lownie claimed in his book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, that the former prince “accused Meghan of being an opportunist and thought she was too old for Harry, adding that his nephew was making the biggest mistake ever” when it came to marriage.

Meanwhile, fellow royal commentator Tom Bower made similar claims in his new book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family.

In one extract, Bower describes Andrew and nephew Harry’s arrival at Westminster Abbey for King Charles’ coronation in May 2023. They were seen arriving at the same time.

In some accounts, Andrew had scathingly dismissed Meghan as an ‘opportunist’.

According to Bower, the awkward atmosphere was due to reports that Andrew had called Meghan an “opportunist”. The author referenced the claims in Lownie’s book.

He wrote: “In the driving rain, Harry arrived at the abbey with Andrew. The disgraced prince was, at the time, still refusing the king’s order to move to Frogmore from Royal Lodge, the 30-bedroom mansion he occupied with his ex-wife, Sarah.

“Relations between the uncle and his nephew were not good. In some accounts, Andrew had scathingly dismissed Meghan as an ‘opportunist’.”

Prince Harry denies ‘fight’ with uncle Andrew

In Lownie’s explosive book Entitled, he also made claims that Harry and his uncle Andrew once got into a physical altercation.

The book alleged that Harry and Andrew became embroiled in a “heated argument” in 2013 that resulted in punches being thrown “over something Andrew said behind Harry’s back”.

According to the book, a source alleged that Harry told him he was a “coward” and “got the better” of his uncle after Andrew was left with a “bloody nose before the fight was broken up”.

However, the Duke of Sussex quickly shut down these claims in a statement last August.

“I can confirm Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight,” a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said, as reported by PEOPLE. “Nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.”

Harry’s legal team also reportedly took action.
