Why Queen Elizabeth II's outfit for Charles and Camilla's wedding sparked wild Princess Diana conspiracy
The late queen didn't attend the actual civil ceremonyQueen Elizabeth II caused a stir with her outfit choice for her son Charles’ wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Charles and Camilla tied the knot in a civil ceremony on April 9, 2005, at Windsor Guildhall. The queen didn’t attend the ceremony. However, she did attend a blessing ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, which took place after.
For the blessing ceremony, Queen Elizabeth II went against wedding etiquette and opted for a pale ensemble. She wore a creamy white coat and hat with a subtle yellow fleck.
The outfit choice sparked a big reaction as it’s typically customary for wedding guests to avoid any white clothing to prevent upstaging the bride.
However, there seemed to be a good reason why the queen opted for the outfit she did and the look has also since sparked a wild conspiracy theory among royal watchers.

‘Reason’ behind Queen Elizabeth II’s outfit choice at Charles and Camilla’s wedding
While it’s not entirely known the reason Queen Elizabeth II opted for the outfit, it’s believed she chose the light colour so it didn’t clash with Camilla’s look.
For her wedding, Camilla wore two dresses.
For the civil ceremony, she wore a cream silk chiffon dress and matching coat over the top.

Meanwhile, for the blessing, she wore a floor-length pale blue and gold embroidered coat over a chiffon dress.
Wearing a lighter colour at the blessing ceremony meant Queen Elizabeth II didn’t clash with Camilla’s blue look.
Another theory is that as the former monarch did not attend Charles and Camilla’s wedding itself, the rules around etiquette didn’t apply.

Conspiracy theory over Queen Elizabeth II’s outfit
But there has been another, slightly bizarre, theory online about Queen Elizabeth II’s look.
Some internet users believe the late queen’s outfit choice was a subtle nod to the late Princess Diana, Charles’ first wife.
Charles and Diana’s marriage was rocky, with Charles admitting infidelity in a TV interview in 1994 saying it happened after their marriage had broken down. It’s believed that Charles and Camilla embarked on an affair during their first marriages.
A video previously shared on X showed footage of Queen Elizabeth II wearing bright blue at Charles and Diana’s wedding in July 1981. The video then shows Camilla standing in the congregation, wearing a dress that appears to be white. That has since been denied, though.
The video then cuts to Charles and Camilla’s wedding years later, showing Queen Elizabeth II walking out of the church wearing her cream ensemble.
The user captioned the post: “I love how Queen Elizabeth still honoured her after all those years,” seemingly referring to Diana.

A fellow X user wrote: “This is so iconic omg.”
Over on TikTok, more videos have been shared over the years.
Someone else said: “Our queen never forget[s] and her revenge was always satisfying.”
A fourth claimed: “She (the queen) wore white like how Camilla was petty and wore white to Charles and Diana’s wedding.”

However, others suggested the queen just simply wore a colour different from Camilla’s blue dress.
Did Camilla wear white at Charles and Diana’s wedding?
Camilla did not actually wear white to Diana and Charles’ wedding. Although images appear to show her in a white outfit, Diana reportedly confirmed it was pale grey.
She told her biographer Andrew Morton in 1991 that she saw Camilla at her wedding in “pale grey” with a “veiled pillbox hat”.
