Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been living in sunny Montecito for some years now, but is that about to change?

According to a new report, the Duchess of Sussex is considering moving closer to Los Angeles.

Following their exit from senior royal duties in early 2020, Meghan and Harry moved to the US and have set up life in California with their two children Archie, six, and Lilibet, four.

They are currently living in a stunning mansion in the wealthy and picturesque town of Montecito, which has been home to many famous faces including their friend Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan Markle ‘eyeing up move’ as Prince Harry ‘resistant’

According to Heat, a source has claimed that the Duchess of Sussex believes they are “too cut off from the social scene in Hollywood” therefore she wants to be “much more tapped in because that’s when the deals really happen”.

The insider said Meghan would “love to get a second place in Brentwood or Bel Air like a lot of her friends have”.

They continued: “She’s open to Malibu if Harry still wants the beach life and she’s even saying Calabasas could be a great fit, not least because they could live in the same neighborhood as Kris Jenner.

“It’s not that she doesn’t love their home in Montecito, the grounds are stunning and she’s put a lot of work into decorating it to her taste, but she says it’s just way too removed for what she wants to accomplish. She hates feeling like she’s always on the outside of things and that’s just the reality of living so far removed from the action.”

‘It’s become a tug of war’

However, according to the source, the Duke of Sussex is being “resistant”.

The source claimed: “Harry is pretty resistant. He has zero desire to be anywhere near Hollywood and he’s not keen on New York, either. He’d love it if they could get a second place in London. But there’s almost zero chance of that happening, so he’d prefer to stay put. It’s become a tug of war, but odds are Meghan will win eventually, she usually does.”

She hates feeling like she’s always on the outside of things.

Royal Insider has contacted representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Is Prince Harry really homesick?

He appeared to shut down rumours he’s homesick. Speaking at The New York Times Dealbook Summit in 2024, Harry said: “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here. It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live.

“It’s the life that my mum wanted for me. I’m able to do things with my kids I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK. That is a fantastic opportunity and I’m hugely grateful for that.”
