Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Australia trip could rile up the royal family, according to reports.

The couple are expected to head to Australia in the coming weeks and their excursion is highly anticipated.

And one royal expert has chimed in, explaining that the interest in Harry and Meghan’s latest move could overshadow the royal family.

The latest on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Australia trip

Royal author Richard Palmer thinks that Harry and Meghan’s Australia ‘tour’ could silence critics and even put The Firm in their shadow.

“Their Australia trip is one of, if not the, most anticipated royal events of the year,” Richard stated, as per The Mirror. “They want to prove their critics wrong so will be hoping it is a huge success. If it is, it will be Meghan’s revenge.”

The duo are expected to take part in a “a number of private, business, and philanthropic engagements,” whilst in Oz – including Meghan Markle’s appearance and meet and greet and a women’s wellness retreat.

Meghan is also rumoured to be launching her lifestyle brand As Ever whilst down under.

However, although this sounds like a great experience for the Sussexes, it may not reflect well on the royal family, according to Palmer.

Harry and Meghan’s Australia trip could spell disaster for the royals

Harry and Meghan have full control of their diaries since stepping away from the royal fold in 2020. Consequently, this leaves room for ill-timed conflicts between the Sussexes and the royals, which could spell disaster.

“There still seems to be an awful lot of tension with other members of the family and the royal household,” says Richard. “Clearly Buckingham Palace and the Sussex camp are speaking, so there’ll be a certain amount of deconflicting going on. But I think it will also annoy the king and other members of the family if, as seems likely, Meghan and Harry garner a lot of media attention while they’re out in Australia, and then that overshadows whatever’s going on back here. One of their biggest frustrations when they were working members of the whole family was that they had to defer to the King and Queen, and to William and Kate,” says Richard.

“They found it really frustrating having to fit in with everybody else when, as far as they were concerned, they were the big box office attraction. But from Meghan and Harry’s point of view, they don’t have to worry about it any longer.

The latest on Harry and Meghan

Although Harry and Meghan haven’t always been the most popular with royal observers, they could make a splash in Australia and appeal to a new audience.

“There’s definitely a market for them and for the As Ever brand over there, but as they do over here, they divide the public,” Palmer said. “There are many staunch monarchists who really don’t like them and see them as having betrayed the monarchy, but there are lots of people who have sympathy with them, who think they’re glamorous and will buy into the idea of these products.”
