Everyone loves cats, right? Well, apparently not King Charles.

In fact, as per reports, the king is said to have had a life-long dislike of anything feline.

Here is everything we know…

King Charles’s dislike of cats explained

The royal family are known to be animal lovers.

From Queen Elizabeth’s countless corgis and dorgis to Princess Anne and Zara Tindall’s love of horses, many of the royals have pets and are very keen on wildlife.

However, one pet in particular doesn’t really appeal to King Charles, as per claims.

Reports allege that King Charles is so averse to cats, he can detect whether one lives in a house, even if it’s absent at the time.

According to former BBC correspondent Brian Hoey, the author of the Princess Royal’s official biography, King Charles “cannot bear” felines.

He is said to not even be able to touch them because of this.

In his 2013 book, Pets by Royal Appointment, Brian penned, as per Hello: “Princess Margaret gave him a kitten as a present when he was a child and he disliked it on sight. Since then, he has developed an aversion to everything feline. And says he cannot even stand having one in the same room.”

Despite this, the royals still have a reputation for having many precious pets.

The royal family’s love of animals

Queen Victoria famously received a portrait of her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Dash, to celebrate her 17th birthday present – a touching gift from her mother, then then-Duchess of Kent.

Meanwhile, King George V had five dogs during his reign.

King George VI was also a dog lover. Perhaps where Queen Elizabeth II got it from? He was said to particularly have loved labradors.

Over the years, Queen Elizabeth II owned more than 30 corgis and dorgis (a corgi-dachshund cross).

Queen Camilla is also known to be very fond of dogs and has three beloved pooches in recent years, Bluebell, Beth and Moley.

In May of last year, Queen Camilla showed off the latest addition to her family, rescue dog “mischievous” Moley.

The adorable snap of pup Moley’s royal debut was shared ahead of Queen Camilla’s visit to the Dog Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in May of 2025.

The caption alongside the photo said: “Meet mischievous Moley, the queen’s new much-loved canine companion who was recently adopted from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, where Her Majesty is Patron.”

William and Kate’s dogs

William and Kate also share dogs and sadly lost their beloved pooch, Lupo, last year.

In October of last year, Prince William chatted with actor Eugene Levy and opened up about Lupo’s death.

Joined by the prince’s pet Cocker Spaniel, Orla, for part of the interview, Prince William explained Orla’s relation to Lupo.

Lupo died in November 2020, and Orla is his niece.

William told Eugenie: “So [Orla’s] actually the niece of our other dog, Lupo, who sadly we lost in lockdown.”

In Spring of last year, Orla welcomed a litter of puppies.
