However, as the public can expect, many are not happy with this decision and are questioning why the Duke is being named in the first place.
The Duke of Sussex will be named for his work during his time as a pilot in the British Army, in an event hosted next week hosted by Hollywood legend John Travolta. Although the Dirty Dancing star may be honored to celebrate Prince Harry, it looks like others aren’t too keen.
‘Why is Prince Harry going to be named a legend of Aviation?’ TV host questions
Buzz Aldrin and Harry will also be recognized alongside Charles Duke, who became the youngest man to walk the moon in 1972, at age 36. However, Talk TV hosts were questioning why the royal was being named a legend alongside them.
“If you’re going to give him an Aviation Award for having done two tours of Afghanistan, then actually, pretty much every single person who’s done two tours of Afghanistan and flown a helicopter, a plane, sat in a Hercules, should also get an Aviation Award,” says host Alex Phillips.
“Because he didn’t do anything above and beyond what a vast number of other people in the Armed Forces have done,” she claims.
Kevin O’Sullivan then proceeds to agree, claiming the whole thing is ‘absolute nonsense,’ before calling it ‘humiliating.’
“He will no doubt turn up all pleased with himself, not realizing that this absolutely undeserved, ridiculous award will actually humiliate him. It will be a step-down,” he exclaims.
However, the two clear up that they do respect the Duke for his duties in Afghanistan, but he has not “distinguished himself” since then.
It is unknown whether Harry will attend the event
Although he’ll be recognized for his work, it is still unclear whether Harry or his wife Meghan Markle will be in attendance at the event, taking place in California on Friday.
The two up and left the royal family in 2020, as many claimed Meghan wanted to move back overseas to live out the Hollywood lifestyle, which would mean, attending prestigious events like this one.
However, it looks like the pair didn’t realize ‘how hard it would be’ to make their mark in Hollywood, according to some experts.
Since moving, the couple has gained, and lost their Spotify deal, as well as being ‘made a mockery of’ on hit TV shows, South Park and Family Guy.
