However, it made both Harry and Meghan uncomfortable.
It’s no secret that Prince William is no fan of Meghan Markle and his brother Prince Harry these days. It’s said that William’s ‘doubts’ over Meghan sparked his bitter ‘5-year feud’ with Harry. Whatever the reasons may be, the truth is King Charles‘ two sons just don’t get along. However, following Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the Prince of Wales made an unexpected ‘gesture’ to his brother and sister-in-law.
Wiliam’s unexpected ‘gesture’ to Harry and Meghan
Royal biographer Robert Hardman has said (per the Mirror) that Prince William was the one who suggested and organized his, Kate’s, Prince Harry‘s, and Meghan’s public appearance to meet with the grieving crowds after Her late Majesty’s death. Many royal fans were shocked to see the Waleses and the Sussexes appearing together in front of the crowd outside Windsor Castle.
The two couples had been at odds since Harry and Meghan left the royal family in 2020. Moreover, the Sussex’s Oprah interview in 2021 had driven a wedge between the brothers. However, they put on a united front in the face of the loss of their grandmother and monarch.
Now a source close to William has allegedly Robert Hardman that the Prince of Wales came up with the idea of the outing following Queen Elizabeth II‘s death. It was he who organized the whole thing within two hours. Despite the tensions between them, the 41-year-old thought it was the appropriate thing to do.
It was a difficult outing for all four
In his upcoming book Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, Hardman wrote that the crowd was “astonished” to see William, Kate, Meghan, and Harry together. The Waleses and the Sussexes got out of the car that Prince William was driving.
One of the palace advisers told Hardman, “It was very much William’s idea. He had organized it in about two hours flat. He had been giving it a lot of thought and he said: ‘I know it’s awkward but isn’t it right in the context of my grandmother’s death?’ I know he asked a couple of other people, too.”
A member of William and Kate’s team also told the author that none of the four found it easy. The tension between the foursome was palpable.
Moreover, royal correspondent Robert Jobson claimed in his book, Our King, that Kate called the Windsor walkabout “one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do.”
Meghan showed signs of ‘anxiety’
Body language expert Judy James previously told Page Six that Meghan showed signs of “inner anxiety” during the walkabout.
“Meghan looked like a woman waiting for her cues rather than pushing herself forward,” James said.
The expert also suggested that the Suits actress’s “frequent hair flicking” during the walkabout “suggested some inner anxiety.”
