Oli sadly passed away two years ago, as his family said he “remains an inspiration and thought changer within the worlds of both dogs and humans.” Now, two years on, Meghan Markle is paying tribute in her own way.
Meghan Markle pays tribute to late friend Oli Juste
On Wednesday, animal rescue Mayhew Animal Home opened a new wing in their London facility named in honor of dog trainer, Oli Juste, dedicated by the Duchess.
Oli was the person who introduced Meghan to the animal rescue term in 2019, where she then became a Royal Patron for three years.
The pair had a close friendship and bonded through their love of rescue dogs and commitment to animal welfare.
After his death in January 2022, the Duchess contributed to the rescue home through the Archewell Foundation in her friend’s honor to continue his legacy.
“The Oli Juste Wing is a testament to his unwavering love and commitment to our furry friends, and will improve the lives of countless animals, reminding us all of the power of compassion, connection, and care,” The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s website writes.
Meghan did not visit the UK for the opening
Despite the new wing being opened, Meghan did not visit London. In fact, she hasn’t visited since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
Prince Harry, on the other hand, made a flying visit back to his home country at the beginning of this month, when his father, King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis.
Due to his father’s ill health, many people suspect the Duke may be making more regular visits overseas, and maybe even bringing his children, Archie and Lilibet along with him.
“Since King Charles’ Cancer diagnosis and Harry’s quick dash across the pond, I think it has hit home with Harry just how important family is to him,” publicist Lynn Carratt told The Mirror.
“I suspect he’ll want to bring his Children, Lilibet and Archie, to the UK to visit their grandad,” she continued.
The monarch has only seen his granddaughter once, during the Queen’s Jubilee in 2022. Archie was only eight months old when the couple left the royals to move across the Atlantic.
