Prince William and Kate Middleton's former aide Jason Knauf knew about Princess Charlotte's birth before the royal family
Luckily, everything went to plan in the end!The ex-aide of Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, Jason Knauf, managed to avoid making a huge blunder just hours after the birth of Princess Charlotte.
Charlotte – who turns 10 this year – was born in St Mary’s Hospital, London on May 2, 2015.

Former aide Jason Knauf says working for Prince William and Kate Middleton was a ‘privilege’
During an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, William and Kate Middleton‘s former aide opened up about what it was like working for the royal couple.
Jason Knauf worked for the royal couple for seven years until 2021. He began working with the Waleses as their press secretary, before bagging a role as the CEO of the Royal Foundation.
In the interview, Jason confessed working for the couple had been the “privilege” of his “working life”.
“It’s never going to get cooler, it’s never going to get better,” he admitted.
He also revealed that a key thing that the Wales family cares about the most is family.
He explained that when planning their diaries, William and Kate also ensured that they had time to be “parents first”.
However, there was one key moment to forget for Jason during his time working for William and Kate…

‘I think I had dropped it’
In the interview, it was revealed that when Charlotte was born, Prince William and Kate Middleton told Jason Knauf the happy news, even before they told the royal family!
He was given a note with the details everyone wanted to know, including the baby’s gender. However, there was something of a slip-up.
“We weren’t going to release it for a couple of hours, and I had this slip of paper to write out this press release,” Jason explained.
“And I’m still out there [outside the hospital] with hundreds of journalists, trying to keep a game-face – and then I couldn’t find the piece of paper,” he then continued.
“I think I had dropped it somewhere on the street,” he laughed. “Which we managed to get through, but not announce it. Somewhere on that street the entire time was a piece of paper that said that there had been a little princess born, what time, and how much she weighed.”

He never found the lost note
Jason then continued.
“It was one of those things where my heart was beating until we got to the announcement and I got through it,” he then said.
“Did you find it?” the incredulous interviewer then asked.
“No, I never found it!” Jason revealed. “And neither did any of the media, so that’s all that really mattered.”
Princess Charlotte was born at 8.34am on May 2, 2015 – almost ten years ago now!
Her birth was marked with gun salutes and London landmarks being illuminated in pink.
Two days later her name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, was revealed. The beautiful name honours her grandfather, Charles, her great-grandmother, the late queen, and her grandmother, Princess Diana.
