With Love, Meghan: Mindy Kaling supports Meghan Markle following 'awkward' Sussex name blunder in Netflix show
Meghan went viral for the 'awkward' moment when she corrected Mindy
Mindy Kaling has publicly supported Meghan Markle in a new TV appearance following their now-viral “awkward” moment in With Love, Meghan, where the duchess corrected Mindy on her name.
Despite the exchange making headlines, Mindy, 45, proved there were no hard feelings by posting a sweet Instagram Story earlier this week, featuring a photo of her and Meghan, smiling in front of a balloon arch from their episode together.
“Love, Meghan is out now @netflix!!” Mindy captioned the snap. “Congrats @meghan on this absolute delight of a show! I loved being a part and please keep sending me hot sauce!”
On Thursday, she appeared on US talk show The View where she was asked about her time on the show.

Meghan Markle corrects Mindy Kaling on her Sussex name in Netflix show
Her public show of support comes after Meghan, 43, went viral for correcting Mindy on camera when she referred to her as ‘Meghan Markle’.
In episode two of With Love, Meghan – which premiered on March 4 – the duchess invited Mindy to help her set up a garden tea party for kids.
As the pair chatted in the kitchen, Meghan recalled her childhood eating habits. She joked about her love for fast food growing up.
“I grew up with that and watching Jeopardy! and having a lot of fast food – Taco Bell, Jack in the Box,” Meghan shared.
I loved being a part and please keep sending me hot sauce!
Mindy then exclaimed: “People wouldn’t believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box!”
Meghan quickly interjected with a smile: “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying ‘Meghan Markle.’ You know I’m Sussex now.”
She then explained why her family name means so much to her.
Meghan said: “You have kids, and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.'”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s surname
Since stepping back as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have continued to use their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, which were bestowed upon them by Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day in 2018.
Meghan’s comments have sparked major confusion online, with many asking if Sussex is now Meghan and Harry’s surname.
However, the couple haven’t confirmed if they now use Sussex as their surname permanently.
One fan wrote on X: “Has she legally changed her name to Sussex?”
Another said: “This was an incredibly awkward exchange.”

Mindy gushes over filming for With Love, Meghan
Appearing on The View on Thursday, Mindy was asked about filming with Meghan.
She said: “You know, I had a great time. I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan, it becomes… big news.
“We were making sandwiches, and then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly didn’t even remember it because we shot it like, nine months ago.”
She added: “I loved my time with Meghan. I’m also like, let her promote her show… it was great and really fascinating seeing the reaction.”

Meghan Markle and Mindy Kaling’s friendship
Mindy and Meghan have been friends for a few years. The duo first bonded during an episode of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes in 2022, where they discussed stereotypes of single women.
During a February interview with TIME, Mindy revealed how she ended up on Meghan’s new Netflix show.
Mindy said: “I was on maternity leave with my daughter in March and April, and Meghan texted me that she was doing a show where she was going to cook for her friends. Would I want to come to Montecito and have her cook for me?
“She’s a very generous woman who knew I needed a break.”
Mindy also praised Meghan’s down-to-earth nature, shutting down the misconception that she is high-maintenance.
“I think a misconception about Meghan is that she’s in any way fussy or has expectations of fanciness,” she said. “She really is a down-to-earth person who knows a lot of fun tricks to make entertaining and cooking easier.”
