Royal family’s Twitter page sparks ‘hacking’ fears with cryptic message: ‘What’s going on?’

There will be a royal special on the BBC One Show tonight

Last night (March 5) the royal family Twitter account posted a strange five-second video, leaving everyone wondering just what it meant.

The official royal family Twitter account is only ever used to update followers on the most recent royal outings and engagements, never usually anything else.

So when it posted a five-second video of an “on air” sign lighting up, everyone was confused – and many wondered if they were hacked.

Royal family Twitter account sparks hacking fears

At exactly 8pm last night, the account posted a light up “on air” sign sitting on a desk. There was no caption alongside it, so everyone wondered what it meant.

The post was incredibly unusual for the royal family’s social media page. So did they really post it?

Any news yet? This post is quite bizarre. Do we even know it’s them?

Taking to the replies on X, one user asked: “What is happening? Can you tell us?”

Another wrote: “It’s been hours. This tease has gone on too long I’m afraid. Just tell us what you mean.”

A third even predicted that the family is branching out and trying to fit in with the newer trends.

Despite it being completely unlikely, they wrote: “Royal podcast coming??”

However, others aren’t convinced that the post was actually uploaded by those in charge of the accounts.

One user penned: “Has your account been hacked? Sad to see what the monarchy has become. Time to have a serious discussion about its future.”

Another wrote: “Any news yet? This post is quite bizarre. Do we even know it’s them?”

Royal family’s Twitter account updates followers

However at 11am today (March 6), the account finally posted again, proving that they were not hacked at all.

The news appears to be that there will be a “special episode” of BBC programme The One Show tonight at 7pm to see behind the scenes exclusives of the BBC 500 Words final that Queen Camilla hosted.

The account posted a teaser video, alongside the caption: “Once upon a time the queen hosted finalists and their families, alongside some special celebrity guests, for the Grand Final of BBC 500 words.

“The creative writing competition encourages children, 5-11 years old to write a fictional story using 500 words of fewer.”

They went on to encourage followers to watch a “special episode” of The One Show tonight to find out who won the competition.

Queen Camilla ’emotional’ over upcoming engagement

The special episode comes after reports claimed that the queen will feel emotional at the idea of joining in on the VE Day service this year.

In May, the royals will attend a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey. Queen Camilla will stand alongside King Charles, Princess Kate and Prince William to honour those who served during the second World War.

Her late father, Bruce Shand served and this 80th anniversary could prove very emotional for her.

Royal expert Jennie Bond told GB News: “It will be emotional for everyone. The king will have so many memories of his father’s wartime service and his mother’s short time in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. Camilla will have similar memories of her own father.”
