Queen Camilla is expected to be deeply emotional as she joins King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate for the 80th anniversary of VE Day this May.

The royals will attend a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.

While Buckingham Palace has yet to confirm the full guest list, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are also expected to take part.

Queen Camilla, 77, will stand beside King Charles, 76, in honouring those who served during World War II. This is an occasion that holds personal significance for her.

Queen Camilla may be ’emotional’ at VE Day anniversary

Royal expert Jennie Bond noted that Camilla’s late father, Bruce Shand, served in WWII. This will make this event especially poignant for her.

“It will be emotional for everyone,” Jennie told GB News. “The king will have so many memories of his father’s wartime service and his mother’s short time in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. Camilla will have similar memories of her own father.”

Bruce Shand was a soldier who was captured as a prisoner of war in Germany. He later received a Military Cross for gallantry in the Battle of Dunkirk.

At last year’s D-Day remembrance service, Camilla was visibly moved while listening to veterans’ testimonies.

I don’t think he, Camilla, or William and Catherine will be shy about showing their emotions.

Camilla has spoken fondly about her father in the past. She previously recalled how he read bedtime stories to her, instilling in her a lifelong love of reading.

Jennie believes King Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Kate won’t hide their emotions during the commemorations.

“I’m sure they will all find it an emotional occasion. Charles, in particular, finds pageantry and music extremely moving,” she explained. “I don’t think he, Camilla, or William and Catherine will be shy about showing their emotions.”

According to Jennie, the VE Day anniversary will be one of the most significant events in the royal calendar this year.

“The handful of veterans will be the centrepiece of the events, of course, but this is a hugely important day for the royal family,” she added. “They all take their links to the military very seriously, even if they have not served.”

Queen Camilla and King Charles leave fans gushing with Instagram video

Meanwhile, in other news about the king and queen, a sweet new video of Charles and Camilla recently sent royal fans into a frenzy.

The royal couple visited Darjeeling Express, an Indian restaurant owned by British restaurateur Asma Khan, to mark the start of Ramadan and celebrate British Muslim women.

The restaurant donates its proceeds to charity and provides food packages to hospitals during the holy month.

During their visit, Charles and Camilla helped pack dates. Dates are traditionally eaten to break the fast at sunset during Ramadan.

A short clip shared on the royal family’s Instagram account shows the pair laughing and enjoying each other’s company as they carefully place dates into small bags.

Royal fans were delighted by the heartwarming moment.

“They’re too funny, looks like they’re genuinely enjoying each other,” one fan wrote.

“Such a lovely couple,” another gushed.

“Love these two who can laugh and clearly enjoy each other’s company,” a third fan added.
