Princess Kate made a graceful return to the Commonwealth Day service this afternoon, marking her first appearance at the event since 2023.

Dressed in a striking red coatdress by Catherine Walker, the Princess of Wales, 43, stepped into Westminster Abbey with Prince William by her side as they joined King Charles, Queen Camilla and other senior royals for the annual celebration.

However, it was one moment in particular that caught the attention of royal fans – Kate’s impeccable curtsy to King Charles upon his arrival.

Princess Kate’s first Commonwealth service after cancer battle

Kate’s return to the Commonwealth Day service marks a significant milestone in her recovery journey.

The Princess of Wales missed last year’s service while undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment following a cancer diagnosis that was discovered after major abdominal surgery.

After announcing in January 2025 that she was in remission, Kate has been slowly resuming royal engagements, including both joint appearances with Prince William and solo outings.

Speaking about her recovery earlier this year, Kate shared: “It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

King Charles and Queen Camilla attend Commonwealth Day service

This year’s Commonwealth Day service was led by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

It focused on the theme “Together We Thrive,” emphasising the unity and shared values of the 56 independent nations within the Commonwealth.

Other notable attendees included Princess Anne, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester.

The 2,000 guests in attendance were treated to special musical performances and appearances by Commonwealth Games athletes and young leaders.

The service also paid tribute to King Charles, who has actively supported the Commonwealth for over 40 years.

The king has visited 48 member states during his time as Prince of Wales and now king.

Meanwhile, Kate looked every inch the future queen in her elegant red ensemble. She previously wore the outfit to a carol service at Westminster Abbey in December 2021.

She also honoured the late Queen Elizabeth II, wearing her signature four-strand pearl necklace with a diamond-embellished clasp and pearl drop earrings.

With Kate and King Charles’ return, this year’s Commonwealth Day Service was a powerful symbol of resilience for the royal family.
