How Prince William and Queen Camilla bonded through Charles and Kate after 'complicated' relationship
William and Camilla have both endured their spouses facing cancer
At the annual Commonwealth Day service last month Prince William and Queen Camilla were seen stood shoulder to shoulder.
The unlikely allies, who were once plagued by rumours of arguments and failure to see eye to eye with an uncomfortable stepmother and son relationship, are now being described as being “closer together” than ever.
But what has brought them closer?

Prince William and Queen Camilla’s relationship
Well, it isn’t hard to imagine that King Charles and Princess Kate’s shock cancer diagnoses forced Queen Camilla and William to depend on each other in ways they hadn’t before.
In fact, according to insiders, their complicated relationship has become warmer due to their shared plight.
In the book Prince William: Born to be King, a palace source told royal biographer Penny Junor about harmony within the palace.
They allege: “I think the relationship between them all is warm now. But if I’m honest, it wasn’t then. I think they found it hard. To be fair to Camilla, she never tried to be mummy but she was the ‘other woman’ and she was there and taking daddy’s time.”
His feelings towards her were complicated, having witnessed his mother’s unhappiness in marriage.
Back in 2022, a source told the Daily Mail of Charles and Camilla’s relationship and how it went down with Prince William. They said: “There were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla’s marriage as everyone found their feet. William didn’t have the best relationship with his father back then.”

Princess Kate ‘helped to thaw frostiness’ between Prince William and King Charles
It seems Princess Kate’s presence helped to soften relations. This was due to the Princess of Wales extending invites to King Charles to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Thus, thawing the frostiness there once was.
A source previously shed light on William’s relationship with Camilla, to the Daily Mail. They said: “He is not particularly close to his stepmother but they get on perfectly well and are quite the blended family now.”
BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond also explained to OK! last year how William and Camilla’s shared concern for their spouses has forged an unlikely alliance.
Prince William and Queen Camilla are ‘much closer’
She detailed: “Recent events have obviously brought Prince William and Queen Camilla much closer. They have been left, almost literally, nursing the crown while the king and the princess recover.
“And while Camilla and William put on a brave face for the world (and no doubt for their spouses too), there may be times when they confide in one another about how they are dealing with it all.
“As an adolescent, William took his time to accept Camilla as ‘the other woman’ in his father’s life. His feelings towards her were complicated, having witnessed his mother’s unhappiness in marriage. But maturity brought with it the realisation that Camilla makes his father extremely happy… and the prince knows now that she is the love of his life.”
