Prince William's facial hair has royal fans swooning over his beard at VE Day celebrations
The Prince of Wales attended VE Day events on MondayPrince William’s facial hair has become a topic of conversation, again, following the recent VE Day celebrations.
The Prince of Wales attended a VE Day flypast on Monday (May 5) with his family, King Charles and Queen Camilla to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day).
VE Day marks the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany’s unconditional surrender on May 8, 1945.
The royal family stepped out on Monday to mark the occasion with a flypast over Buckingham Palace and a tea party with war veterans.

Why does Prince William have facial hair?
Well, Prince William has facial hair for probably a very simple reason – he likes it! Last year, the prince caused a stir online when he debuted his bearded look.
However, it did cause some upset for Princess Charlotte. Charlotte wasn’t keen on dad William’s beard at first and the Prince of Wales shaved it off!
The beard is really doing it for Prince William.
But, after some consideration, William decided to grow it back and explain to Charlotte it was all okay.
Over the years, William has both had a clean-shaven look and a bearded look. But right now, it seems he’s keeping the bearded look.
And it’s safe to say, royal fans aren’t complaining!

After seeing the future king out at the VE Day celebrations on Monday, fans were quick to gush over his beard.
One person said on X: “The beard is really doing it for Prince William.”
Another wrote: “Prince William looks so good in his RAF uniform and hat. His beard,” followed by a fire emoji.
A third added: “The beard has definitely grown on me.”
Are royals allowed to have facial hair?
There’s no strict rule or protocol that royals can’t have facial hair. But traditionally, the male members of the monarchy have often kept clean-shaven looks.
Like William, Prince Harry also sports a beard. However, in his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry revealed he and William once had a disagreement over their beards.
According to Harry, William wasn’t happy that his younger brother was allowed to keep his beard on his wedding day to wife Meghan Markle.
During his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, William didn’t have a beard.

Prince Harry’s beard row with William
Writing in Spare, Harry said he asked his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II permission to keep his beard for his wedding day in 2018.
Harry wrote: “I explained it to my brother and he… bristled? ‘Not the done thing,’ he said. ‘Military, rules, so forth.’
“I gave him a quick history lesson. I mentioned the many royals who’d been bearded. King Edward VII. King George V. Prince Albert. More recently, Prince Michael of Kent. Helpfully I referred him to Google Images.

“‘Not the same,’ he said. When I informed him that his opinion didn’t really matter, since I’d already gone to Granny and got the green light, he became livid.”
Harry added: “He raised his voice. ‘You went to ask her!’ Yes. ‘And what did Granny say?’ She said ‘keep the beard.’
“‘You put her in an uncomfortable position, Harold! She had no choice but to say yes.’
“No choice? She’s the Queen! If she didn’t want me to have a beard I think she can speak for herself.”
