Princess Diana spent her final summer moments soaking up the sunshine in Europe just weeks before her tragic death.

Diana died on August 31, 1997, at the age of 36 following a car crash in Paris.

Inside Princess Diana’s final summer moments before her death

But just weeks before the accident, the Princess of Wales was pictured on holiday in the South of France as she enjoyed some quiet moments with her sons Princes William and Harry.

Around mid-July of 1997, Princess Diana was pictured on vacation in St. Tropez in the South of France.

According to reports, she visited Dodi Al-Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. It’s claimed that she and Dodi grew close on this trip.

Her young sons, William and Harry, were also on the trip.

During the trip, Diana stayed at Mohamed Al-Fayed’s 30-bedroom villa, Castle St. Therese.

The princess was also seen soaking up the sun on Al-Fayed’s yacht.

Later, on July 22 of 1997, Princess Diana attended a memorial service for Gianni Versace in Milan, Italy, alongside Sir Elton John and supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Versace had been tragically murdered earlier that month on July 15.

In 2017, model Naomi recalled seeing the princess at the service. She told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live: “The last time I ever saw her was her telling me at Gianni Versace’s funeral how much she loved me and how sad she knew I was. [She died later that year] in August.”

Then, in early August, Princess Diana visited Bosnia as she met with landmine victims.

The princess reportedly visited the homes of landmine victims and met with local disability groups and rehabilitation specialists.

The BBC described the trip at the time as “entirely private”.

Later in August, Diana spent time with Dodi back in the south of France. They were also photographed in Paris and Sardinia.

What did Princess Diana do on the last day of her life?

On August 30, hours before Diana’s death, she and Dodi left Sardinia for Paris. They stayed at the Ritz hotel.

They spent time shopping in the city and had dinner in the hotel. After dinner, the pair left the hotel by car and were pursued by photographers.

It led to the tragic crash, which happened in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Dodi and the driver, Henri Paul, died instantly.

Diana was taken to the Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital. She was pronounced dead in the early hours of August 31.

What were Diana’s injuries when she died?

According to reports, Diana suffered from a concussion, broken arm and a cut to her thigh. She also had chest injuries, including a tear in her pulmonary vein. It caused internal bleeding.

Princess Diana’s funeral took place days later on September 6, 1997.
