Prince William announces new plans over Prince George's 'inheritance'
Prince George is set to inherit the sprawling estate from his father
Prince William has unveiled his vision for the Duchy of Cornwall, which Prince George will inherit as part of his royal inheritance.
William inherited the estate when his father, King Charles, became monarch in 2022.
His plans are already shaping the landscape of his son Prince George’s future inheritance.
“We’re not the traditional landowner,” Prince William told The Telegraph. “We want to be more than that.”
Describing the estate as “another branch of my philanthropy,” William is determined to turn the Duchy into a modern, mission-driven organisation focused on tackling social challenges.

Will Prince George inherit the Duchy of Cornwall from his father, Prince William?
Yes, under royal tradition, Prince George will inherit the Duchy of Cornwall when his father becomes King.
The Duchy was established in 1337 by Edward III to provide financial independence for his heir. The estate spans 128,494 acres across 20 counties in England and Wales.
It includes rural farmland, inner-city properties, rivers, beaches, and even iconic sites like the Oval cricket ground in London and the Isles of Scilly.
The Duchy generates millions in annual income – £23.6 million in the last financial year, which funds the Duke of Cornwall’s family and operations like Kensington Palace.
But while the Duchy will ultimately pass to George, William is working hard to reshape its mission before that day comes.
His strategy is clear: tackle homelessness, support the mental health of farmers, and strengthen community connections.
“The Duchy has been a positive force for good, but we can do so much more,” William explained. “I think the key thing is, it’s about not losing the important community and historical links of the Duchy. It’s also about making sure we’re building on and enhancing, modernising the Duchy.”
William’s approach is hands-on. He visits parts of the Duchy every four to six weeks. His team of 150 staff are helping steer the ship as William digs “deeply” into the estate’s operations.
“We’re going to modernise it without losing its key spirit of community,” he said.

Why is Princess Charlotte richer than Prince George?
Although Prince George stands to inherit the Duchy, Princess Charlotte has been dubbed “the richest child in the world”, even surpassing her older brother in estimated net worth.
Charlotte’s net worth is estimated at £3.5 billion, slightly higher than George’s £3.4 billion.
Why the difference? It all comes down to the “Princess Charlotte Effect”, the impact Charlotte has on fashion and consumer spending.
Just like her mother, the Princess of Wales, Charlotte has become a style icon.
Charlotte’s wardrobe is a mix of high-street favourites like Zara and John Lewis and luxury brands like Rachel Riley, Trotters, and Alexander McQueen. Her outfits frequently sell out within hours.
The “Kate Middleton Effect” has boosted British brands by an estimated £1 billion annually. Charlotte is following in her mother’s fashionable footsteps, and her growing influence as she enters her preteen years will only expand her net worth.
