Prince William 'very excited' as he's set for Brazil trip for Earthshot Prize Awards
The Prince of Wales founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020
Prince William has officially announced that he will travel to Brazil later this year for the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards, marking a major milestone for the global environmental initiative he founded.
This will be the first time the prestigious ceremony is held in South America, and the Prince of Wales said he couldn’t be more thrilled.
Speaking at a Leading with Impact event in London during London Climate Action week, the prince confirmed that this year’s awards will take place at Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) in Rio de Janeiro on November 5.
He was joined at the event by Earthshot Prize finalists and supporters.

Prince William ‘excited’ to visit Brazil
“From a personal point of view, I’ve always wanted to get to South America, particularly Brazil,” William gushed at the event. “So I’m personally very excited about going down there. I think South America as a whole, the amount of ecosystem, kind of environmental interest and passion that is there.
“I think that’s really important. And I think they epitomise the approach to what we can be doing more sustainably. The vibrancy, the energy, the enthusiasm. I think the awards ceremony down there will be spectacular.”
This will be the fifth Earthshot Prize ceremony, following previous stops in London, Boston, Singapore, and Cape Town.
So I’m personally very excited about going down there.
Brazil’s selection as the 2025 host was first announced in April.
This year, the event promises to be bigger than ever. It will bring together environmental leaders, innovators, investors and philanthropists from around the world.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the multi-day celebration will feature exhibitions and activities showcasing groundbreaking climate and sustainability solutions.

Earthshot Prize Awards
The announcement video in April featured a star-studded line-up of names associated with the Earthshot Prize.
These included Cate Blanchett, Christiana Figueres, Dame Jacinda Ardern, and Nemonte Nenquimo, as well as David Beckham, Billy Porter, Heidi Klum and Hannah Waddingham.
Brazilian figures such as Cafu, Maju Coutinho, Marcos Palmeira and Mauro Silva also voiced their support.
Notably, Kate, Princess of Wales, previously joined her husband at Earthshot ceremonies in London and Boston. However, she was absent from the events in Singapore and Cape Town.
While her attendance in Rio has not yet been confirmed, royal fans will be keen to see if she makes a return for the first South American edition of the prize.
Since its inception, the Earthshot Prize has reviewed over 5,300 environmental innovations from 141 countries. It has awarded £20 million in funding to help winners grow and scale their groundbreaking ideas.
In 2025, the prize will review 232 entries from Brazil and South America. This is more than double the number received during last year’s process.
15 finalists will take part in a year-long accelerator programme. They will receive mentorship, technical support and access to a global network of influential partners.
As William prepares to travel to Rio, the excitement is already building.
His visit will not only spotlight Brazil’s role in shaping the future of environmental leadership. It will also reaffirm his commitment to transforming ambitious ideas into meaningful, real-world change.
