Prince Harry has jetted out of the US to make an important solo trip – but seemingly without wife Meghan Markle amid reported safety concerns.

The latest news about Prince Harry comes amid coverage in recent days concerning a secret “peace summit” said to have taken place between Sussex and Buckingham Palace aides.

The Duke of Sussex landed in Angola earlier today (Tuesday, July 15) to follow in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana, and walk across landmine sites.

The king’s second son is visiting the seventh-largest country in Africa on behalf of his charity, the Halo Trust. However, according to one tabloid report, Prince Harry didn’t “allow” the Duchess of Sussex to make the trip alongside him.

Where has Prince Harry gone on his solo royal trip?

Getting to Prince Harry’s final destination in Angola reportedly involves taking a series of small two-person planes after his initial landing in the capital of Luanda.

On reaching the minefield sites, royal supporters will likely be transported back nearly 30 years when his mum was snapped walking through dangerous areas in a flak jacket and helmet in 1997.

Prince Harry, meanwhile, became Halo’s patron in 2019. It is also anticipated that he will deliver a speech, as well as make his way through the terrain scattered with explosives.

Additionally, it is believed Prince Harry hopes any resulting publicity could encourage more donations from the Angolan government. A source is said to have told MailOnline: “Usually these trips help to drive a bit more money from the government.”

Meghan Markle ‘safety concerns’

Angolans endured a horrific civil war for 27 years from 1975. Millions of landmines are believed to still be buried within Angola’s borders.

Halo is said to have cleared more than 123,000 landmines since 1994. Its missions also includes reviving former war zones into farmland, national parks, and secure villages.

However, MailOnline reckons Prince Harry determined the trip could prove too risky.

There was no chance he’d allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.

An unidentified source is quoted as saying: “The duke won’t let his wife go to England over security concerns. So there was no chance he’d allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.”

‘He wants to keep his work to himself’

Additionally, the news outlet also suggests Prince Harry may wish to keep his Halo efforts and family life separate.

A similarly anonymous insider apparently said: “Halo is really his thing, it means so much to him to be patron. And he just wants to keep his work with them to himself.”

After Prince Harry became Halo’s patron in September 2019, he continued his mother’s legacy by visiting the same city where she posed for iconic images that continued to resonate after her death, a few months after they were taken.

At the time, he also visited the remote Dirico region. A night was spent camping by the Cuito River – and Prince Harry even detonated a landmine.

Prince Harry also visited the local Princess Diana Orthopaedic Centre. There, he met people who deactivate and remove mines in southeastern Angola.

Then, in September 2024, he joined Angola’s foreign minister at a United Nations Halo event in New York. However, Meghan did not attend, with sources reportedly highlighting how that engagement formed part of Prince Harry’s “independent schedule” during Climate Week.
