Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips announces he's engaged to girlfriend Harriet Sperling
The couple have been dating since last year
Peter Phillips, Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest grandson, and his girlfriend Harriet Sperling have announced they’re engaged!
The couple, who first began dating last year, have revealed their engagement alongside new photos. An official statement has been issued, too.

Princess Anne’s son, Peter, and NHS nurse Harriet have reportedly delighted their families with the wonderful news.
A statement issued for the couple by PR Gerard Franklin, read: “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.”
It continued: “Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement.”
The statement went on to say: “Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.”
Peter and Harriet confirm engagement with romantic snaps
The photos alongside the announcement, published by Hello, show the couple smiling lovingly at each other.
They can be seen posing in casual outfits whilst standing against a wheat field backdrop.
It’s here that Harriet can be seen showing off her sparkling new engagement ring.
In the photos, she rests her hand romantically against Peter’s chest, whilst beaming at the camera.
A royal photographer, James Whatling, who has photographed Peter and Harriet a number of times, told the publication: “We were waiting for this news. You can’t watch this couple for too long without noticing how close they are. They’re so tactile, and they’re clearly so in love. It was only a matter of time.”
Harriet Sperling’s engagement ring
Tobias Kormind, Co-Founder and MD of 77 Diamonds, said of Harriet’s engagement ring: “The ring appears to be a timeless trilogy design, likely showcasing a central oval or round diamond, flanked by trapeze-cut or triangular side stones.”
Kormind estimates the ring is worth around £10,000 ($13.2k)!
Hello’s royal editor said alongside the release of the images: “This is wonderful news for Peter and Harriet, but also the wider royal family. Peter is close to the king and to his cousins, and Harriet seems to have been warmly welcomed into the fold.”
The couple, who debuted their relationship last year, reportedly met at a sporting event.
Peter Phillips and ex-wife Autumn Kelly’s divorce
Before meeting Harriet, Peter was married to Autumn Kelly. Peter shares two daughters with Autumn, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13.
Harriet also has a daughter named Georgia.
Harriet previously opened up to Woman Alive about being a single mum.
She said: “In the earlier years of my journey as a single mother to my daughter, resources were scarce, and the future was uncertain.
“Yet, in the absence of material security, I discovered the strength and life that comes from true selfless love. A love that is able to be solely devoted to your child.”
