Donald Trump accused of 'snubbing' Prince Harry during state banquet speech
The president embarked on his second state visit this weekDonald Trump has been accused of “snubbing” Prince Harry during his state banquet speech to King Charles.
The US President, 79, has been in the UK this week for his historic second state visit. And while he immediately got people talking by walking in front of the king during a Guard of Honour inspection in Windsor, it seems it’s his state dinner speech that has now grabbed attention.
Prince Harry, 41, has been estranged from the royal family since stepping away from duties in 2020. However, last week, he and his father, King Charles, met up in person at Clarence House during the duke’s UK visit. It was their first in-person meeting in 19 months.
This sparked speculation that the first steps of a reconciliation could be on the horizon.

Donald Trump accused of ‘snubbing’ Prince Harry during state banquet speech
While delivering his speech to the 160 guests inside St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night (September 17), Donald Trump took the opportunity to praise Charles’ eldest son, Prince William.
But everybody was quick to notice that Harry got no mention at all in his lengthy speech.
Trump said: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We have gotten to know you and I think you will have unbelievable success in the future. Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William.”

The president also went on to praise William’s wife, Princess Kate, for looking “so radiant and so healthy” following her cancer journey – after already calling her “beautiful” earlier on in the visit.
He said: “And to see Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine so radiant and so healthy. So beautiful. It’s really a great honour, thank you.”
But in the whole nearly seven-minute speech, Trump did not mention Prince Harry. His apparent snub comes as he has previously said some harsh things about Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.

Royal fans react to the ‘dig’
A clip of Trump’s speech where he was praising Prince William has since been uploaded onto a royal fan page on Instagram. And some fans weren’t too happy that Harry failed to get any mention.
One fan commented: “So, he’s basically saying that the king has one son…”
Another penned: “That little pause he made to emphasise ‘one son’.”
Someone else wrote on X: “The diss heard around the world. Charles has one remarkable son – Prince William.”
Another added: “I couldn’t help noticing that Trump snubbed Prince Harry by congratulating King Charles for having such a great son.”
However, some royal fans thought it was right that Harry didn’t get a mention.
One wrote: “Well, sometimes the truth hurts. And I mean, the obvious answer is, there was only one son at the evening. Why should he mention the other one? For what?”
“I think this is the first time I have ever agreed with him,” a shocked user commented.

What else was said in the state dinner speech?
Trump also took the time to praise King Charles in his speech. And he even managed to make the room chuckle when he joked he “hopes” it is the last time he visits.
He said: “It’s a singular privilege to be the first American president welcomed here. And if you think about it, it’s a lot of presidents, and this was the second state visit – and that’s a first and maybe that’s going to be the last time. I hope it is actually.”
Trump added: “But this is truly one of the highest honours of my life.”
