Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s silence during Donald Trump’s UK state visit hasn’t been a coincidence, according to a royal expert.

The US president made a historic second state visit to the UK this week, where he met with King Charles and enjoyed a state banquet at Windsor Castle.

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan and Harry‘s silence during Trump’s visit was “intentional”.

Speaking to the publication, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam said: “I’d be surprised if the Sussexes do anything this week that might annoy. The British put on such a ceremonial show. I mean, I’ve been watching this. It is amazing, and it’s intentionally amazing and intentionally designed to impress President Trump.

He then continued, saying: “If the Sussexes made a move that distracted us, as they have from time to time when there been important royal events, it would be not only be outrageous, but it would draw Trump’s eye.”

The royal expert added that Harry knows the importance of the state visit. “This is a decision that would be taken because Harry knows serious national issues are being discussed,” he said.

Trump ‘snubs’ Harry

During his speech at the state banquet on Wednesday night (September 17), Trump seemingly snubbed Harry and Meghan.

Delivering his speech to 160 guests, Trump said: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We have gotten to know you and I think you will have unbelievable success in the future. Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William.”

The president went on to praise Kate, saying she looked “so radiant and so healthy” after her cancer journey.

“And to see Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine so radiant and so healthy. So beautiful. It’s really a great honour, thank you,” he said.

Harry, or his wife, Meghan, were not directly mentioned once during the seven-minute-long speech.

Trump slammed over Prince Harry ‘snub’

Royal fans were not happy that the president failed to mention the Duke of Sussex in his speech.

“So, he’s basically saying that the king has one son…,” one wrote on Twitter.

“That little pause he made to emphasise ‘one son’,” another said.

“The diss heard around the world. Charles has one remarkable son – Prince William,” a third wrote.

However, some royal fans believe it’s right that Harry didn’t get a mention.

“Well, sometimes the truth hurts. And I mean, the obvious answer is, there was only one son at the evening. Why should he mention the other one? For what?” one said.

“I think this is the first time I have ever agreed with him,” another wrote.
