The Most Powerful Women franchise was set up in 1998, with the publication of the first Most Powerful Women in Business ranking.

Amid calls for a platform for these women to come together and discuss their shared challenges, the first Most Powerful Women Summit took place the following year 1999. It has since become an annual event. Previous speakers have included Melinda French Gates and former US President Barack Obama.

This year’s conference will take place from October 13-15. The theme is ‘Leading in a Dynamic World’.

According to Fortune’s website, there will be talks from some seriously high-profile women, such as former US Vice President Harris, discussing her presidential campaign and new book, singer Selena Gomez, on her Rare Beauty brand and Fran Horowitz, CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch Co, amongst others.

The Duchess of Sussex is also scheduled to have her own “fireside conversation” with Alyson Shontell, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Content Officer of Fortune magazine.

She will reportedly speak about launching her As Ever lifestyle brand. Her talk will explore “navigating entrepreneurship in the public eye and building a brand that will endure”.

Fortune teased the news yesterday via Instagram, saying: “#FortuneMPW is excited to welcome @meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Founder of As Ever, to our conference, October 13–15, in Washington, D.C.”.

Attendees will also get to enjoy “a gala dinner, Michelin-star meals, exclusive activities, and networking with a peer group like no other”.

Meghan picks up humanitarian award

It has been a busy couple of weeks of travelling for Meghan. Just last night (October 9), she appeared at a New York awards do with Prince Harry.

The couple picked up Project Healthy Minds’ Humanitarians of the Year Award, in recognition of their global mental health advocacy.

It comes after Meghan also travelled to Europe over the weekend, for the first time since 2023.

The Duchess of Sussex made her debut at Paris Fashion Week, attending a Balenciaga show.

As she accepted the award, Meghan made a heartfelt admission about her two young children and their futures.

She said: “Our children Archie and Lili are just six- and four-years-old. Can you believe it? Luckily still too young for social media but we know that day is coming, and like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits while safeguarding against the dangers.”
