The couple made a return to the UK after quitting royal duties in 2020Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK in June of 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations – but at one event, they were reportedly booed by crowds.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived in the United States since 2020 after they chose to step away from their senior royal roles. Since then, they have had a strained relationship with the royal family.
This is mainly due to the string of tell-all interviews they’ve done and Harry’s memoir Spare, where they detailed their experience within the monarchy. Harry and Meghan made some damning allegations about the royals, and relations have reportedly been tough since.
But in 2022, they were in London to mark the momentous celebrations.

Harry and Meghan’s return to UK for jubilee
The platinum jubilee marked Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne. The queen was the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
A string of events took place from June 2 to 5 in 2022 to mark the milestone.
One event was a service of thanksgiving, which was held on June 3 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, reunited with members of the royal family for the service. But things appeared tense.
A year prior, Harry and Meghan’s infamous Oprah Winfrey interview aired. In it, they made allegations about the monarchy and detailed their time as senior royals.
Speaking to Oprah, Meghan said there had been “concerns and conversations about how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be “when he’s born”. She said this was “relayed” to her from Harry.
Heartbreakingly, Meghan also revealed the pressures of royal life and admitted she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore”.
At the time, Buckingham Palace issued a statement. It said whilst “recollections may vary”, the matters would be addressed privately.

According to the Daily Mail, royal correspondent Richard Palmer noted: “There was a loud reaction from the crowd to the arrival of Harry and Meghan: a mix of boos and cheers.
“Our correspondent outside says what sounded like a mixed reaction had turned into a clear cheer by the time the Sussexes had reached the top of the steps.”
Meanwhile, Sky News commentator Rhiannon Mills, present at the event, said: “We were debating how many boos, how many cheers but I think also when you compared it to later arrivals there was a mixed reaction to them.”
