We’re sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Queen Camilla’s “handsome” equerry, Major Ollie Plunket, has officially stepped down.

The queen’s right-hand man was previously dubbed “the internet’s new crush” as a video of him helping to decorate a royal Christmas tree went viral.

‘Major Ollie Plunket is one handsome man!’

Equerries are British Armed Forces officers who are selected to assist senior royals in their official duties. They typically stay in the post for around three years.

According to reports, Major Ollie Plunket was Camilla’s first equerry, serving her since November 2022. In that time, you may have spotted him accompanying her on various royal engagements and overseas visits. Earlier this year, he travelled with King Charles and Queen Camilla to the Vatican for their historic meeting with Pope Leo XIV.

Perhaps most memorably, this time two years ago, Ollie got royal fans gushing when he used a sword to hang ornaments on the Christmas tree at Clarence House.

“Gotta get me an equerry,” one person commented on the clip, followed by a winking emoji.

“Major Ollie Plunket is one handsome man!” Said someone else.

Another agreed: “He is a delight!”

A fourth also declared: “Can we just take a moment to admire Major Ollie Plunket.”

Over the weekend, Buckingham Palace announced the sad news that it’s now time for Ollie to move on. But it seems he has exciting things on the horizon, with a promotion to a prestigious new role in the Royal Victorian Order.

A statement released via the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, dated November 30, reads: “Major Oliver Plunket was received by The King and Queen this morning upon relinquishing his appointment as Equerry to Her Majesty when His Majesty invested him with the Insignia of a Member of the Royal Victorian Order.”

The Queen reportedly paid tribute to Ollie during her recent appearance at the biennial RIFLES Awards Dinner, which she attended with Duchess Sophie.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Major Ollie Plunket, who has been my staunch equerry for the past three years,” Queen Camilla said in her pre-dinner speech, as per the Daily Mail.

She added touchingly: “He has excelled in everything he has done for me.”
